I didn't catch up with this album until the issue of the Prestige twofer "Fire Waltz" in 1978. Over the years its had a regular if occasional spin. It's pretty much a delight from start to finish. Warm Canto is a lovely chamber piece, exactly like it's title but Warp and Woof is my favourite track, tasty and relaxed. Dolphy and Ervin work well togther and there is some very nice playing from Waldron both in solo and accompanying. Persip is superb, just right for the date. Listening now I think that Ron Carter's solos are superfluous adding little to the date, out of place or perhaps just dated. The rest easily stands the test of time. Another great choice for AOTW.

I have Zoot Sims Plays Four Altos (Implulse) by means of multi tracking tucked away somewhere.

This wouldn't be my first choice from Bennie Green's discography. On the other hand all BGs discs have a lot to offer.

My copy of Boss Horn has a few seconds of distortion at the beginning. Is it just mine or are they all like that. Volume level seems a bit on the low side as well.

Oh dear! I dug my Signifyin' out and find my European issue is a compilation with twelve tracks taken from Signifyin', Possum Head, Cole Slaw, Rough House Blues, Musty Rusty and Blowing In The Wind. Although it hasn't much to do with the AOTW thread it's a very nice cd. No creativity but the blues licks are recycled nicely by a bunch of guys who know what they are doing. This cd would make a nice introduction to LD.

Exciting, I remember it well. Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, Coltrane Mingus, Impulse, ESP, what a time. The only problem was I was underpaid and I couldn't afford all those discs.

Harley is on one track on Sonny Rollins' Cutting Edge done Live at Montreux. I saw the band live at Ronnie Scott's. The bagpipe drone was something different.

It's worth it!

The early ZYX boxes came with full size boxes and booklets, I have the Coltane, Evans, Montgomery and Davis sets all in 12" boxes. They say made/printed in the USA.

I have it. It's not all great, some of it's weird, but it is always interesting. Typically Mingus.

Heard the first half of Up All Night. Too gimmicky by half for me. Very much better is Sco's contribution to Roy Haynes' Love Letters. Just about as straight ahead as Sco gets.
