  9. Last night a terrific gig by the David Murray Infinity Quartet (Rod Williams, Jaribu Shahid and Nasheet Waits).. Highlights were the bass clarinet feature When the Monarchs Come To Town and Solitude, a tenor/bass duet. Waits got some exciting and musical solos.

  12. Yesterday evening - Art Trip. A tribute to Art Pepper with Alan Barnes. Some very energetic playing by Barnes, in fact the best I've heard him, who seemed to be in his element. All the numbers were associated or composed with Pepper, good to hear some of these rarely played pieces.
  13. Ted Gioia's book is terrific Tom. It's the best jazz book I've come across.
  14. WCJ was pretty big when I got into jazz in the 50s. I new about, Brubeck, Mulligan and Baker but my main memory was the first Pacific Jazz anthology . West Coast Jazz. A nice collection of swinging and happy bright sounding music.

  18. Yep, a great gig, maybe our very best. Nice routines, nothing casual about the gig. Good choice of material and some unusual tempos. Very nice guy too.. Gald you could get down Bill and had a good time.

  20. i've used Jazz Messengers a few times, but not lately. Good service. One package went astray but it was replaced very quickly without question. I've been to the shop, just off Las Ramblas, well worth a visit.
