  1. I was only in Santa Fe for a day or two. Sadly never got to sample any Mexican cuisine there, settled for a Chines buffet which was pretty good by our standards. Nevertheless a nice city. It's unlikely but I would like to return.
  2. Apart from that one which contains two Challenge lps there's a Rene Bloch date - Much Rock with Rene Bloch on Andex reissued on a VSOP cd. Lord also list Dizzy Gillespie with the Neophonic Orchestra from 1965. No issue details.
  3. Lord lists him on four sessions between late 50s and 65
  4. Now on disc two. The string quartet tracks are amazing.
  5. Track listing here http://www.jazzmessengers.com/rlr-records/product108786
  6. We had Teddy Edwards play here, early 90s(?) on a couple of occasions when he was touring as a solo playing with local rhythm sections. Basically the same set on both occasions. As an older player it's reasonable to expect him to play safe with what he's comfortable with. So no complaint here.
  7. Looking at my set, it has a nice booklet with extensive notes and some nice photos. All in French so mostly meaningless to me.
  8. I saw Roland in Dobell's one morning, listening IIRC to Omer Simeon. I'll always remember the look of disgust on Don Solash's face when I asked to hear Spiritual Unity. But the lackluster service there was par for the course.
  9. Fresh Sound issue
  10. Nice sounding set - but I have a handful of the cds so I'll almost certainly pass. In any event I probably have enough Woody to justify not going for this.
  11. Nice one Rooster
  12. so you weren't tempted by the vinyl version then to maintain your run? I'll be interested to hear your impressions. The samples sound intriguing but I've not quite hit "buy" yet First impression only. An interesting and probably a valuable document, but not played all the way through yet. Starts with an Aylerish march, To my ears there's quite a lot of Ayler in Brackeen's playing here. Abdullah is fine. Recorded sound is okay (not as good as say on The Group Live). The vinyl - for a guy my age I have far too much vinyl, I don't need any more.
  13. Just received from NoBusiness. I'll be putting my exclusive vinyl run on hold to give it listen.
  14. Happy Birthday Flurin young man. Hope it's a good one.
  15. Not with Black Lion, I had a JVC cd many years ago labelled as Ernie Watts that turned out to be something entirely different.
  16. Cecil Payne; Patterns. Savoy Jazz. Striking RVG sound.
  17. Gerry Mulligan; Idol Gossip. UK Pye issue. Next on With all the wah-wahing going on I shouldn't like this but it's infectious stuff. Gonna have to play Take off Your Body soon.
  18. Last on Art Blakey at the Jazz Corner of the World, Vol 2. Blue Note (UA blue label) Now Blue and white UA.
  19. Much better sound here than on the WEA/Atlantic Here Is Phineas. Not so much extreme technical ability on display so a slightly more relaxed feel.. A tad cocktailish in spots. Still finding Newborn hard enjoy.
