  1. Indeed. Prince talked about putting them out on CD with extra material in the year or so before he passed. Sadly, never happened. I know someone who is trying to get the Birdseye LPs reissued properly but we'll see if it happens. I believe the Enja stuff did make it to cd but it would be great to have remaining Birdseye recordings available. In fact I didn't know of their existence until this thread caused me to do a little research.
  2. Good news and thanks for the heads up. It doesn't appear to have reached the UK yet.
  3. That's probably fairly rare. I have the Cecil on Praxis but not that one. I think it may have reappeared on a Leo cd Paul.
  4. Interesting find Romualdo. Thanks for posting.
  5. Hi, it's always nice to welcome another Murray fan to the board. I'm not sure it's a fault, I think he's just off mic or not plugged in. He sounds a tad distant on Morning song too. I no longer have the vinyl so I can't compare.
  6. Happy Birthday Dan!
  7. still with Rollins vinyl
  8. Mentioned by chewy elsewhere Sonny Rollins; East Broadway Run Down. HMV UK issue
  9. Just pulled my copy out. It's a stereo. Did they still issues mono copies in 1967? Mine has the 'Stereo playable as mono' paragraph on the reverse of the jacket. In any event it sounds pretty good.
  10. I have a UK HMV mono issue. But in my rather limited experience the best way to hear Impulse recordings is the original vinyl.
  11. Thanks to mjazzg and Leeway for inspiring me to get out some Charles Brackeen. Fred Hopkins - a monster on bass. Surely one of the greats on the instrument.
  12. YES! Great album.
  13. Lee Morgan; Leeway. Blue Note. UA issue.
  14. As it's the anniversary of his birth. Fine album.
  15. Thanks for reactivating this thread Bentsy. I'm sorry to admit I didn't know Insight was around! Missed the vinyl the first time round for some reason. Recomendations from Lon, Sidewinder and CT are enough to for me to go for this. As it's his birthday I'll dig out the Enja vinyl.
  16. Email from Amazon UK, release date put back by a week or so.
  17. Nice piece, thanks for posting.
  18. Hsppy Birthday Bob, have a great day. Must try to meet up again one of these days.
  19. Just the four tracks from this session on Trombones By Three. I'll try to find time to compare those against the Rollins box tracks.
  20. There was just the double album on Hat as far as I know in a heavyweight gatefold jacket. The equivalent cd omits one track - PO in Cairo.
  21. Fabulous record. I got this when it first came out. Knocked me out then and still does. Frank's best? Quite possibly it is, but I think this one is a close contender -- at least: Not bad, but I'll own up to selling mine not too long ago as it wasn't getting any plays. I think it's the organistaion of The Flam that I like as well as some astonishing playing by what is really a super group. I don't know too much about the West Wind label. The odd one or two that have come my way were recordings fron East Germany . There's a nice Art Ensemble 2cd on the label though it's out on anothe rlabel now if memory serves.
  22. David Murray Quartet; Morning Song. Black Saint
  23. Fabulous record. I got this when it first came out. Knocked me out then and still does. Frank's best?

    Out of The Blue

I used to have two or three of their albums. For some reason they never quite did it for me.
