  1. Interesting. Can I ask what you find troubling with Gayle? I only have Kingdom Come and its enjoyable enough and I wouldn't be opposed to hearning more. Do you mind elaborating? I may in another thread. Cool. I realize this is not the place to discuss Gayle. Let me know, though when you do, as I value your opnion Clifford.

  3. What FFA said. AFAIC, this album contains the definitive version of "Autumn Leaves." Yup! Their version is just simply staggering!
  4. I'm surprised, a little, that chewy's into this one. It's pretty free. Definitely not West coast Ra! :rsmile:
  5. My second daughter has really set the bar when its time to get up in the morning-now I'm up on average between 6-7:30 am every morning.
  6. Another great album!
  7. Last night I tried to get my flight changed to go through Atlanta, but it would have cost me $300 (!), so I decided to try my luck this morning. When I got to the airport (Seattle) I was told that there was no problem in Cincinnati. But for the time being, the Atlanta airport was closed! We lost a little time in Cincy getting the plane de-iced, but it was all good. Glad to hear that GA. A friend told me last night that the weather there was so bad that they had a driving ban; no one was allowed to leave their home!

  9. Et Cetera and JuJu strike me as personal statements if I'm thinking of the question correctly. I find that when its just Wayne and rhythm he seems to express emotion and ideas more intimately through his horn then when he is accompanied by brass like on The All Seeing Eye for example (my favorite album of his). I got this impression too when I saw him a couple of years ago with Pattituci/Perez/Blade. The more intimate the surrounding the more Wayne seems to come across more as a personal artist. Then again, I could've misunderstood the question too
  10. Not that bad here, but I am officially tired of the cold. I think you guys are going to luck out and miss the brunt of the storm. If I knew how to upload pictures, I'd take one of this four foot drift in my back yard, its wild! And its still snowing! We now have around 15 inches!
  11. We now have over a foot with two foot drifts and its still snowing!
  12. Being a bit hilly you mean??? Or all the trees??? The home builders have tried, but haven't been able to cut them all down yet....to be fair, this is a fairly new subdivision(built in the early 90's) and they did leave a fair number of trees, which is not always the case. Those evergreens drop needles all year round though. Funny, the hilliness isn't all that noticeable compared to a lot of other cities, of course, but everything's relative. I remember back when I worked for Borders Books, some trainers were brought in from the Miami area to help stock and train a new store in north Atlanta. And those Florida guys and gals, were just amazed by the hills, and fairly tiny Stone Mountain!!! I think except for Gainsville Florida, the rest of the state is as flat as a pancake! Indeed, Florida is about as flat as you get! When I was growing up there a hill of dirt made by a construction company was the center of attraction as that was the tallest thing around (minus buildings of course!).
  13. It is rumoured that there is some squeaking door on the Batman album too! Strange Strings rules. It have just been discussed over at "The Sun Ra Album-By-Album" thread over at http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums Thanks for the thread Jostber! I'm starting my morning off with Strange Strings again! I can't believe this gem has layed around this long with out being transferred to cd....what in the world!
  14. We are getting pounded this morning (and all last night)! A friend stayed over last night and the snow is already up to a quarter of her tire!
  15. Yeah, this one looks bad. I'm still in Summit County. If I was to take off tomorrow morning I'd be ahead of it. Unfortuntaley, I have unfinished business here and can't leave until Saturday morning at the earliest. Now of course the problem is I may not even be able to even get out of here at that time. How was your drive Wednesday? As I type this the snow's getting worse. Don't know what's really in store for us tonight yet... Drive over was uneventful. Total shit for tonight and tomorrow. Although it looks like where I am at is going to escape the brunt of it. Plans are now to drive back to NY on Sunday morning. Whatever the case drive carefully, and at worse stay an extra night to avoid an extra headache!
  16. I see that in his playing on Out in Space/Black Myth-he doesn't play a lot of notes, but the notes he plays hit me like a ton a bricks!
  17. Oh and Clifford, rush out and grab the Gruntz; the music is absolutely excellent!
  18. Agree. Last Exit's Koln being the case. This was released on cd, ie ITM originally. Brotz's Machine Gun (which baffles me, has the FMP gone OOP?) being another case.
  19. jager could be a good cough supplement
  20. Up, Dig this series a lot. Just nabbed a copy of Globe Unity Orchestra 67-70 and man what a great disk. A surprise was that Thomaz Stanko was on one of these sessions; never pegged him to be a free stylist! Some of my favorites: George Gruntz-Mental Cruelty-great one! Brotz-FMP 0130 Brotz-Alarm Brotz-Pica Pica Brotz-For Adolphe Sax Brotz-Nipples Brotz-More Nipples Brotz-Fuck De Boere Moholo/Stabbins/Tippett-Tern Haaz and Company-Unlawful Noise Steve Beresford/Tristan Honsinger-Double Indemnity Dieter Scherf Trio-Inside/Outside Sven-Ake Johansson-Schlingerland/dynamische Schwingungen
  21. Picked up NOTPM yesterday and after spinning Strange Strings to death, I finally gave this a spin tonight. Initial impression is that Ra and co. kind of remind me of the Doors in spots (it is a quartet date) and perhaps the music is a reflection of the late 60's early 70's, but by and large, it is an enjoyable date that does not stand up to Strange Strings which is a classic Ra recording in my opinion. As for the bonus tracks, I agree that it is not worth selling everything you have to hear them. They're good but not earth-shattering. I think Clifford nailed it best in his review; one of the most interesting items on the set is Gilmore's drumming duties!
  22. Up. I was just commenting on this album over in the Sun Ra thread and I thought this would be a better place to talk about this one. I just picked this one up yesterday and over the course of a day, I've must've spun this disk about 10 times and I am absolutely floored by it! I can see why Ra fans would put this one near the top; the overall surrealness, lo-fi production and the vast array of intruments really push this one into classic status. For me, this one's up there with Atlantis, Jazz in Sihl., Fate in a Pleasant Mood, and the Heliocentric Worlds. This has got to be the one of the far out things I've ever heard Ra do, and I absolutely love it! And that track with the creaking door...classic! This is great stuff!
  23. i will check this out and report back! Mexican Hip Dance and Grease Piece are are particular favorites!
