  1. Ornette has been a journey starting with Ornette on Tenor and nearly 20 years later, that freshness and excitement is still there.
  2. Thanks for the clips everyone. I've been really getting into Ellis' music over the last couple of years and was blown away by Essence. Did Electric Heart ever get released? Was that meant for the theaters or DVD release?

    Anthony Braxton

Thanks. I wonder why they did not use that cover for the cd reissue. I think I like the original cover a lot more!

    Anthony Braxton

Has anyone seen this album cover? Its a cover of the 3 Comps in New Jazz which I've never seen before. Is this the original cover? Here's the ebay aution: http://cgi.ebay.com/Anthony-Braxton-3-comp...1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. I never realized there was a pitch problem

    Anthony Braxton

Thanks. I will definitely pick it up.
  7. Shelly Manne ...I feel like I'm on a roll (get it?) with drummers tonight...
  8. How was the remastering? The Calabre edition (w/ the red slip case) of Paul Bley's Closer is ok if maybe slightly better than average. So most likely I won't make the upgrade. What I wouldn't mind obtaining is a better remaster of Bley's Barrage which the Calabre to me, sounds like a real murky mix. The Lacy and James that I have are from the Italian label Abraxas. The Lacy sounds remote in the mix where its hard to here Johhny Dyani at times. The James though sounds really good and everyone is mixed up front so you really get to hear Barre Phillips pluck every note.
  9. A couple more: Andrew Cyrille Beaver Harris 360 Music Experience Milford Graves...well not technically a leader but led his own solo dates. Can't recall if Elvin Jones was mentioned...
  10. That's a shame. My only hope is that means they can now do a proper US RVG of some of these titles. As of now we have a total of ZERO John Patton US RVGs ever released. I thought of that too. Because the trend generally seems to be that when an item lapses OOP that it is being primed for an RVGrelease. Of course that logic hasn't worked yet with Coleman's Love Call
  11. Have all these but the NYAQ...will definitely be snapping that one up. I have to admit too, that I'd like to see more of the obscure items in the catalogue that have maybe only seen one or two reissues, if that like the Henry Grimes, Byron Allen, Karl Berger and Alan Silva dates. The Bob James and NYAQ is a good start though.
  12. It's good. Debra says it's good. As for me, I would agree. Kenny Wheeler's great! Thanks for the response, And thank you Free for All, Deb I will pick it up

    Anthony Braxton

Any opinions on this disk? Its Andrew Voigt/Anthony Braxton: Kol Nidre: Sound Aspects. I mean yeah, it has Braxton on it, and I'll most likely get it since I can snap it up for $8, but I'm no too familiar with Andrew Voigt, who was with ROVA. I've never heard how he sounds or how he does with Braxton, so that's my primary concern. Here's a link below to look at the disk: http://cgi.ebay.com/Anthony-Braxton-Andrew...9QQcmdZViewItem
  14. Snapped up this Parker diddy for $5
  15. Need Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down: Kenny Wheeler's Disk Dear Wan What Say You Jazz Board?
  16. It appears that Along Came John has gone OOP. That brings BJP's available BN's to two at Blue Note's website. A real pity.
  17. I have to say, the audience in the background either looked bored or nonplussed. What venue is that? It looks like either a college or a church.
  18. How was it? I can only imagine that it was amazing!
  19. Japanese reissue of a "post mortem" release on Riverside. I tried reading the notes on the back of the jacket and yeah, I gleaned that they were definitely talking posthumously about Henry.
  20. Interesting item on Ebay. It looks like a comp of his Riverside leader dates + sidman appearances. Nonetheless it has a pretty cool cover: http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem...em=150212490567
  21. Thanks for posting that. What a treat to see Gene Quill, Jimmy Cleveland, George Russell among many others.
  22. Just saw today that Peter Brotzmann's My Space posted a bulletin bringing attention to Andrew's cause. It is the same bulletin posted above, but I think its great that this story will get wider exposure considering that Brotzmann has over 3000 friends at his site.
  23. To Live and Die in LA (one of the greatest car chases of all time IMO) Ronin Aliens II (fun to watch Paul Reiser be a bad guy) Terminator II Raiders of the Lost Ark Return of the Jedi (Jabba the Hut was a bad ass) Brave Heart Payback Gladiator Gangs of New York (well its mostly action) Saving Private Ryan
  24. It depends. Personally, I'd rather have the music in the original format because more often than not, I'm going to want to hear more. I only have one 'compilation' and that's Sun Ra's Greatest Hits and I got that one because there is so much music, but over time I have bought a ton of Ra albums on Evidence and no longer need the album (although I can't seem to part with it either). For the novice listener, on the other hand, I see no problem with comps.
