  1. Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas is the Christmas album in our house...until my wife had to ruin it by buying that Clay Aiken Christmas album
  2. My personal favorite. And I've noticed that almost every Mal Waldron cover where he appears, he has a cigarette.
  3. I remember seeing a really great Brotz/Van Hove/Bennink clip on You Tube a while ago. I'll try and find it to post here. That would be great Clifford!
  4. Here's one of the Eremite clips. Bennick is just incredible here! http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=pSD_qvGbCJk&...feature=related
  5. Thanks for the clip!
  6. Yeah it is! It is currently snowing in Ohio tonight; got the fire in the fireplace going and some great Great Lakes ale out-what a night!
  7. Although none of these recordings were from this year, this was a great year of discovery of Cooper-Moore for me. Found two of his Hopscotch recordings (Tells Untold and Solo) this year and my appreciation for his playing is way up for me. My first exposure to Cooper-Moore was William Parker's Peach Orchard and that was amazing!
  8. the one drummer i think i actually despise, no offense. None taken -_- just a reference, not a personal taste.
  9. You guys are making me jealous! I really want to see Brotz in concert. I remember that Eremite had a few clips at their website of Brotz and Bennick at the U of Michigan and I was completely hooked!
  10. I know this isn't purely a "jazz" example, but Max Weinberg has been leading the Late Night w/ Conan O'Brian band for over a decade now.
  11. Reissues released this year: Andrew Hill-Compulsion!!!-BN RVG Andrew Hill-Change-BN Conn Frank Foster-Manhatten Fever-BN Conn (this one was a pleasant surprise )
  12. Well amazingly, I landed a new copy of the Montrose at a cd shop, that seems to have froze in time and the stock hasn't moved for seven years. Along with the Mulligan/Baker and the Touff, I took an immediate liking to this album. Funny enough, the Montrose cover painting is the same painting on the unissued Chic Hamilton w/ Eric Dolphy Ellington Suite.
  13. I'm going to be in Chicago on the 15th. I saw that the schedule only goes up to the 7th. Do you know if he's going to be there throughout the month?
  14. Thanks for the clips. Have never seen Brotz, but I would really like to.
  15. So can anyone give me their impressions of Riley's Angle and Ricotti's Our Point of View? What are the lineups? etc.
  16. Don't forget Tony Williams!
  17. I have been on a Peter Brotzmann kick for the last two years straight. Not only do I find almost every recording he's made consistantly rewarding, but even his side projects are very notable. The first Brotzmann cd I ever bought was Machine Gun and everytime I listen to it, I can pick out something new that I didn't hear previously. The three-prong attack of Brotz, Willem Breuker and Evan Parker has got to be one of the most startling things I have ever heard in music. Over the years, Brotzmann seems to have never let up, or gone "soft" as his recordings with the Chicago Tentet have shown. So what are your impressions? What do you own by Brotzmann? This is what I have: Machine Gun-FMP No Nothing-FMP Wie Das Leben So Spielt-FMP Die Like A Dog-FMP Little Birds Have Fast Hearts Vol I-FMP Little Birds Have Fast Hearts Vol II-FMP Brotzmann Chicago Tentet +2-Broken English-Okka Disk Brotzmann Chicago Tentet +2-Short Visit to Nowhere-Okka Disk Brotzmann Chicago Tentet-Stone/Water-Okka Disk Brotzmann Chicago Tentet-Images-Okka Disk Die Like a Dog Quartet-From Valley to Valley-Eremite Nipples-Calig/UMS Fuck De Boere-Hr?/UMS For Adolphe Sax-FMP?/UMS FMP 0130-FMP/UMS Berlin Djungle-FMP/UMS Alarm-FMP/UMS Pica Pica-FMP/UMS Balls-FMP/UMS Scharzwaldfahrt-FMP/UMS Last Exit: Iron Path-Virgin Venture Last Exit-Enemy Koln-ITM CD
  18. Right now its a night view Las Vegas.
  19. My copy of Early Circle clocks in at 54:41
  20. Yeah it is! I was listening to it in the car again last night and Russell basically sounds like he should be in a hard rock band at times; it even sounds like he's doing a little feedback too. This is terrific stuff!
  21. Here's the Chris Holmes clip if anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1O5h-xWpro
  22. I think it was his real hair around 1983, but it looked pretty evident that he had a receding hairline.
  23. I sure hope that was the footage from The End of Civilization Pt.1: The Metal Years (from back in the day), and not a recent interview. That would be REALLY sad. Oh wait a minute. It was The End of Civilization, not Heavy that had the Chris Holmes interview. In Heavy, they showed a clip of Holmes from that documentary. My bad
