I'm another huge On the Beach fan. I've had it on cd-r for a long time. The reissue sounds great to me. I recently read the Neil Young biography "Shakey" - I really enjoyed the stories about the recording of this album. Especially the story about Young and his cronies freaking out David Crosby during the recording of Revolution Blues. I could just imagine his reaction to the line "I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars - I hate them worse than lepers - I'll kill them in their cars" - Crosby must have been freaked. For me, all of Neil Young's albums up to Zuma are essential. I enjoy his later work, but it just isn't on the same level to me. I just wish they would have released Time Fades Away too. At least I have it on cd-r. BTW - I agree with Clementine - Skip Spence's Oar is a GREAT record!

Then we'd also finally have a place to talk about Kenny G and muzak.

Yeah Rooster, It would be cool to just be able to talk without getting into our personal agendas. That political forum is like a bear trap - OUCH! Actually, I would like the political forums a lot more if we ran them through the Snoop Dogg Shizzolator. I'd be so entertained by the shizz that I wouldn't care what was being said. :rsmile:

Since I can't play politics like the big boys, maybe there could be a politics lite forum with rules for those of us who just want to shoot the bull. I learned to stay out of the politics forum, though I think that it's important that B3-er has created a board free of censorship. I can't think of any other forum out there that treats its' members with so much respect. :rsmile:

Thanks Rooster! I hope you like the David Sylvian. See if you can hear the song "Orpheus" - that's my favorite. I like his solo stuff a lot more than Japan. If you like Sylvian and Japan, check out Sylvians solo album "Gone to Earth" - To me it was his most Japan-like solo record and it also featured the bassist of Japan on it. :rsmile:

I used to really enjoy "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" back in the 80's. I haven't heard it in years, so I don't know if I'd still like it. I don't know if you've explored David Sylvian's (the singer of Japan) solo work. His album "Secrets of the Beehive" is a beautiful record. I like it more than any of the stuff that Japan did. Nice choices, Big Al! I hate to admit this, but I've never gotten as deeply into this period of Miles as I should have. This album of the week will be a great opportunity to do so. It's amazing how much I've learned from what you guys have had to say during the course of these Albums of the Week. I never imagined I'd be a fan of Weather Report, but now I have a bunch of their early cds. I'll start listening to this AofTW selection early.

I think it's a great idea. I don't believe people would take money to attend his church, but for him to make that offer is a real gesture of goodwill. My guess is that he'll get a lot of visiters who don't take the money. If I lived in that area, I'd visit his church just because I knew that I was welcome there. I have a great deal of respect for the Bishop reaching out to other races. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of people who avoid people because of fear, and this kind of act is the kind of thing that brings people together. :rsmile:

Thanks Rooster! I've been busy busy busy, but the biggest problem for me is I haven't had much time to listen to any music at all lately. The only things I've been really listening to lately are my Speedy West/Jimmy Bryant box set on Bear Family and the newest Radiohead album. I know it's a weird combo, but that Radiohead really got under my skin, and Jimmy Bryant is my favorite guitarist, so I've been listening to him for inspiration in my guitar playing. I've got a lot of Albums of the Week to catch up on. I hope you guys all have a great weekend! :rsmile:

This is a great thread! LOL My son will be 2 in August. I agree that when you're in the trenches as a new parent, you just don't care about the environment anymore, you just don't have the energy to care. I think I was a zombie during my son's first six months. Heck, I think I'm still a zombie in some ways. My son announced to us the other night that he's ready to be potty trained. Here's how he did it: He took his pants and diaper off. Just as I was reacting to put it back on him, he did his business on the floor. Aaaargh!! After I cleaned up his fun, I was explaining to him that he's not a dog or a cat and he doesn't do that on the ground. As I said that, my son then started meowing. I think I'm in trouble.

I really wanted the Hamilton set for a long time. I finally got it last year, but I still haven't gotten into it. It probably gets the least amount of my Mosaic listening. I'll have to revisit it again. I also have the Kenton Presents set. This is also one that I haven't gotten really into yet. If I was to choose between the Hamilton and the Kenton Presents, I'd get the Hamilton since it's days are numbered. I have most of the Tristano set already, through various reissues, so I don't know if I'll pick it up. I am tempted though, I love this music. If I didn't have any of it, I would buy this set in a second. I also give the Wilson a big two-thumbs up! :rsmile:

Wow! Thanks for missing me! I just got back into town. I've been up in Reno for my sister's wedding. It was my first vacation since my son was born a couple years ago. I had a great time. Sorry Jim, I can't afford to keep up on Criss Cross releases. I agree the guitarist on this session isn't great, he's not on the same level as Grant Green, but he doesn't ruin the session for me at all. I actually like some of his ideas, his execution isn't perfect, but LD must have dug something about him to have him on this session. Maybe we should nominate Dan again so we can have Musty Rusty as album of the week. I've got to hear that! :rsmile:
