I think that is a great idea. One album a week isn't enough for me. I mostly know older recordings, so it would be nice to be turned on to some new stuff. :rsmile:

Randissimo, Those Giants look like sweet bikes. I'm still on a hardtail. I'm looking forward to entering the realm of full suspension someday. Back when I was riding daily, I was always tweaking my bike. I bought so many aftermarket goodies for it, it was crazy. It took me a long time to realize that I should just stick with the Shimano parts and not use all those boutique parts. My bike always rode better with the standard stuff. I stopped racing way back in '91. I was flying down a ridge and I came to a dropoff. I was probably going about 50 mph, I pulled a tabletop and I ate it (ooof!). I went down so hard that I bent a Shimano XT crankset. I had to wratchet my cranks for 10 miles back to my car. I was really hurting. That's when I broke my back. Now, I'm happy to just cruise along. Mountain bikes are a blast! :rsmile:

I used to race mountain bikes until I broke my back. We have some good trails out here in Southern Calfornia, but there have been some closures of great trails. I'm hoping to get on my bike more in the future, but I have found it hard to make the time for it. It is such a great way to get away from everything. I've had amazing experiences while on my bike. I've had deer run along with me. That just blew me away. :rsmile:

Yeah, this is a nice idea for a poll. I also dug the Andrew Hill poll too. Thanks, Rooster Ties! I went with Contrasts, too. I really like most of his music, but I just haven't gotten into Mother Ship as much as everyone else. Unity would have killed the competition in my opinion. Great album! :rsmile:

I've got this album on vinyl and I've been waiting for this new reissue. I really dig Bloomfield. His Butterfield and Electric Flag albums are part of my regular rotation. Did you pick up the live Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield cd they just reissued? I'm curious about that one. I'm sure I'll pick it up. :rsmile:

I'm a big Beach Boys fan too. I know there are a couple books at least. Heroes and Villians - Stephen Gaines - I read this one years ago. Unfortunately the lives of these guys were pretty sad. It's a depressing read somewhat. The Nearest Faraway Place - Timothy White - I enjoyed this one more, but it doesn't focus entirely on the Beach Boys. It's subtitle is "Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, and the Southern California Experience" if that helps describe it. I also remember Brian Wilsons autobiography. Unfortunately, it was written while under the influence of Dr. Landy. I don't really know what to believe in it. If these books are out of print. I just wanted to thank you guys for this thread. I finally picked up Elliott Smith's S/T cd and Figure 8 last night. I've only had a chance to listen to his first album, but I have to say that I was BLOWN AWAY. After the first song ended, I couldn't believe how much I liked it. Then I felt the same about the second song, and so on. I can wait to hear Figure 8. :rsmile:

I'm not sure but my strings might be groundrounds. They probably are more bright sounding than the ones on the Hofner. I haven't played with true flatwounds, except on a bass guitar. You're right, the roundwounds are the "normal" guitar strings. I've been tempted to go back to them. I was originally using D'Addario 11's also. Thanks for the info on the Wechter. I don't have a nice classical guitar right now. It would be nice to have one.

I agree that it is better to play the guitar than to receive it sight unseen. I think at any one time, I am usually jonesing for a couple guitars, too. How are the Wechter guitars? I've been curious about them for awhile. They seem to be a good value. I'm still curious about those strings on the Hofner. I looked around the internet and tried to find out about them, but no luck. This brings up something I've been wanting to ask. What strings do you recommend. I have a DeArmond X-155 hollowbody guitar. I'm currently using D'Addario Chrome flatwounds on it. These are the only flatwounds that I've tried. Any recommendations? :rsmile:

I get emails of what's in stock from Elderly weekly. I love seeing what they have in stock. I'm having such a hard time right now. I'm just jonesing for a new guitar. I usually play solid electrics. One of my favorite brands is G&L. I've got 5 of them, but I want more. Joe, you should check out Buffalo Brothers guitars, they have pretty good prices (about 62% of list), plus they have this deal that if you buy a guitar from them, later you can trade it in towards a guitar of higher value and get exactly what you paid for your guitar as trade in allowance. They also carry the Hofners. :rsmile:

I was all for having politics on this board, but now that religion has been added, this place is losing some of it's luster for me. When we were discussing the idea of having politics on the AAJ board, I was all for it with the exception being the discussion of religion. It's also a drag that some people come from other boards just to piss in the pool here. The tone's been getting a lot nastier lately.

I guess I got all the titles except the Howard and the Laws. It certainly was a nicely packaged series. :rsmile:

I thought it was a neat concept, but some of the albums were a little more smooth jazz than I like. remember there was: Charlie Hunter - Natty Dread Fareed Haque - Deja Vu Bob Belden - Tapestry Everette Harp - What's Going On I don't remember a Ronnie Laws title in the series. :rsmile:

Welcome to the forums, Eric! I should check out those db reissues. I haven't heard them in years. It is great that they've reissued those Jam albums. I'm lucky that I picked up the Jam boxset a few years ago, so I didn't need to get them. Collectors' Choice sure has a diverse reissue program. :rsmile:
