  1. Yes you can! I love those cds.
  2. These are great! Jim, your Elvin Jones avatar is fantastic!
  3. Isn't that the stuff Coltrane picked up in Japan in '66? I believe it contributed to the awesome recordings he did in '67.
  4. Cool! I'm looking forward to seeing them. I wish I was in Dallas. I'd love to see you guys play.
  5. Jeff, I really think you're one of the most valuable posters on this board. Whether I agree with you or not, you always make sense. Post as much as you like, about anything you like -- and if other people don't like it, well -- that's their problem. I agree with your sentiments. Che. Thank you!
  6. Thank you. I feel like this attitude has made me self conscious (in a negative way) about my posts on this board.
  7. Lee Morgan was the 'toothpaste factor?' I never knew. I always thought it was Hank Mobley who found a way to make his sound more 'round' with toothpaste. I love this Board! I learn something new every day. Just wait until I start on my dental floss theories...
  8. Some people only post when they have something to say. Strange concept I know. So what is the definition of having something to say? Are we only allowed to post a message that adds to jazz scholarship in general? I used to think this was a place where we could just shoot the breeze. To tell the truth, all these comments on junk posts, etc... have taken a lot of the fun out of this place for me. I no longer post in reply. I used to do so because I know how much it stinks to post something cool and feel like it was ignored. I know that "stupid questions" thread was annoying to many, but to those participating, it was a lot of fun. Maybe this place has been sour at times because the good-natured fun has been discouraged around here. I guess I better go write a thesis so I can post something worthwhile here. I'd hate to see an Organissimo forums get together. Would we just stand around and only utter profundities, or would we just be cool and talk about the weather or our kids, etc... These are the kinds of things that build goodwill towards each other. I don't mean to be offensive, but I really hate this attitude. I live with enough rules in my real life. Maybe we could have a thread or section of the forum for those of us who (as some believe here) are junk posters. That way, the intellectuals won't have to deal with those of us who are beneath them. I'm off to work on my next post. It will be about the morning of April 14, 1965 and what type of toothpaste Lee Morgan used. Most biographers believe it was Crest, but I have an alternate theory. There seems to have been a shift in his sound and I attribute it to a different toothpaste. You know how a fresh mouth makes you feel...
  9. We're under attack!!! Click here
  10. To me, Indian music is much more complicated. They're playing semi-tones; IMO there's a ton of nuance in their music. I think they're rhythms are very difficult to follow. I purchased some tabla drums years ago and haven't got anywhere with them.
  11. You're welcome, Tony! I hope you enjoy the music. :rsmile:
  12. Yes Tony, it was reissued by Angel records in 1999. Here's the link to it on the U.S. Amazon.com page: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=music&n=507846 I have really enjoyed this Ravi Shankar reissue series.
  13. This isn't Jazz, it's really Indian music, but I love the albums that Paul Horn did in the late sixties. His, In India, In Kashmir, and Inside the Taj Mahal have had many hours of my listening time. This stuff is pretty much Indian music, but it's interesting to see a jazz musician in this context. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Collin Walcott. There's a Ravi Shankar album from 1961 with Bud Shank and Gary Peacock: I love Jazz and Indian music. I would love to hear more where they are merged.
  14. Thanks guys! Jazz Kat, Cat Shatner's taking a short break from the whipped cream. He's got a stomach ache. I do need to start making avatars again...
  15. Nice guitars, Scott!
  16. Clem, OJ wasn't a hero to me like Lincoln or something, but I grew up as a football fan. I was born in '69 so from the time I was really little, OJ was a great player. I look back at the heroes of my childhood with great fondness. My point was that race never was a factor for me with OJ. Don't worry, my heroes aren't celebrities or athletes anymore...
  17. It is like a Phillip K. Dick novel... AfricaBrass never existed! I never was here...
  18. It should not be forgotten that the Bruno Magli pictures were brought out during the civil trial, not the criminal trial. For most people it only confirmed what we knew from the criminal trial, and certainly the state met its burden in the criminal trial, but the fact is that while the Magli pictures go to O.J.'s guilt, they have nothing to do with the Cochran defense in the criminal trial. Thanks Dan, for the clarification. I guess it all runs together now for me.
  19. Sorry Chris! I confuse the hell out me all the time. Summary: I ate some bad catnip which made me crazy. I changed my name. I hated it after a while, saw it was confusing, so now I'm back. Like Elvis in '68!
  20. That's a good idea, but I'll just stick with AfricaBrass. I'm glad to be back to AB. Jeff B And The African Brass. Now that's a real good 'un! It would go with my "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" avatar.
  21. Thanks Lon!!
  22. Same here! When he put that glove on it looked like he was stretching his hand to make it appear that it didn't fit. That plus any shrinkage from the blood ruled the "if the glove doesn't fit, acquit" idea out for me. Also, the Bruno Magli shoe footprints in blood. OJ was quoted as saying he would never wear those ugly shows and then he's shown on video wearing them. That bugged me too. Cochran was brilliant in how he used Mark Fuhrman as the fall guy on this. He was a helluva attorney. He got his man out. I love those MAD tv spoofs of OJ on the golf course looking for the killers.
  23. Anyone else NOT agree with this opinion? No, I also don't agree with it (if that indeed is what you're asking! ). I agree except for the last sentence, however. I don't think the race of the lawyer mattered as much as the race of the defendant and victims. I don't agree. I grew up with OJ as a hero. He wasn't black to me, he was OJ; running down the fields and through airports. I thought it was great that he was in the Naked Gun movies. It was freakin' OJ. He was a real hero to me. I remember the shock as this all went down. I couldn't believe OJ could do this. I actually saw the low-speed Bronco chase. I raced home after and watched the rest on TV. I was deeply saddened by all this. I watched as much of the trial as I could. I don't care if his victims were white. I care that he created victims in the first place, by taking a knife and violently ending their lives.
  24. That's a good idea, but I'll just stick with AfricaBrass. I'm glad to be back to AB.
  25. Thanks guys! Jeff B is a just a memory now...
