I enjoy that session and his Living Legend album from '75 a lot. I think for now, Tranemonk should try to find sessions recorded before Pepper began his long incarceration in the 60's. That's how I started with AP, but eventually I got into his later stuff and really appreciated it for what it was.

I love what I've heard from the Village Vanguard cds, but have you already purchased his late 50's, early 60's Contemporary recordings that are out as OJC's. If you like the Aladdin sessions, I think this would be the next step. I love Art Pepper! :rsmile:

I'm hooked on copter too!

Okay... duct tape. Since I'm a Marx Bros. fan, duck tape works for me.
-
Ah yes - the Windows equivalent of Duck Tape. I remember when I payed 3 grand for my Mac back in '97..... I thought Apple's use of duck tape was much more creative than the PC's, and it hurt a lot more. At least I don't feel like Ned Beatty in the movie Deliverance when I restart my PC. I used to work on Macs all the time and I had plenty of instances when they locked up also...

Modern Rock - what do you like???
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I really enjoyed Brendan Benson's Lapalco cd from a couple years back. I picked up his newest album today (The Alternative To Love) and it's pretty good, but it really sounds just like Lapalco and I'm not too blown away by the lyrics... Maybe I'll like it more later. -
Comcast as well.

I'm having the same problem... IE is not working, but I'm able to get here with Mozilla Firefox. I'm actually running a virus scan right now, because of this.

I'm still trying to get over "Sunkist Vibrations" when I hear the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations... That commercial was twenty years ago...

Shelly Manne: Live at the Black Hawk
AfricaBrass replied to neveronfriday's topic in Recommendations
I too, LOVE these recordings and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to anyone. -
I really like the Selects too! I think it was a great move on Mosaic's part.

I like the sets because they often represent a significant piece of the artist's work and are usually complete. Also, this is the only way to get some of this material. The various labels may reissue parts of the sets, but oftentimes, there's a significant part of the set the remains and probably will remain unissued. Of course, sets like the Complete Blue Note Recordings of __________ will probably have the individual albums available at some point, but I'd be surprised to see something like the Complete Peggy Lee/June Christy sessions released in full, except through some European bootleg type release. Look at the Woody Shaw; that music was recorded in the 70's, but the only album from the set that has been reissued is Rosewood... If you buy Mosaics used, then you're paying more than the single albums, but most Mosaic cds have two albums worth of music per cd, so you're really getting an album for around $8. I think they're a tremendous bargain if you buy them before they go out of print. If you don't have the money to buy them, then I'd say don't worry about Mosaics. They're nice and enjoyable, but I wouldn't lose sleep if I couldn't purchase a set. In a few years, you could be making enough money to buy anything you want...

Now that makes sense. If the artist doesn't mind then of course it's okay. But it should be incumbent on the offerer to make sure the artist doesn't mind, not just to be willing to stop if the artist finds out and says something... That said, how long can I resist this stuff.... I agree. This is how archive.org works. They have to get proof from the artist before they'll host the files.

I'm just glad I didn't go with my first avatar choice... I would be afraid of what everybody would subconsciously think of me.
-
Sweet! I love those Guilds.
-
Interesting comment. Never thought of that. Kinda makes sense. Did you subconsciously think I was a cat?
-
Oh--do you mean this group? It looks like you've been getting a number of new members today...

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to live my life following some netiquette developed in 1995. I understand that there was a need for this when people where on 28k modems, but I think times have changed and we can converse any way we feel like conversing. I promise not to go to the rmb board and junk it up with my stupidity, ignorance, and poor spelling.

Organissimo is in the studio...
AfricaBrass replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Mark, You should go into Organissimo's recording session and do a Francis Wolff impression. A bunch of your black and white shots would look great for their new album, especially when Blue Note finally signs them and issues the album. -
Oh, we're not white - we just checked our melanin with the coat check girl. We're all the same color inside. Created by the same maker, or if you don't believe in that, came from the same cosmic slop. Actually, we just have Vitiligo.

Crusty! Actually, this will really help those Usenet providers that charge $25/month for unlimited downloads...

Back to the slammer for me...

Jeff, you know everything is black OR white dontcha? I know. That's why my personal ethics have a lot of room for the grey area, yet I admit that there are laws that go against what I believe to be right, and in the end my opinion is worth jack squat. It is difficult to respect the law when our own leaders use and abuse it, though. I just wish the law would crack down on all the speeders where I live... This is the type of black and white that I like to see. Balance.
