I wonder how come the husband didn't notice this was happening to him?!?!

God, Keanu Reeves is horrible...

It's nice to be among friends. -
I've heard he really smokes on the alternate take of Pentatonic Fairy Fucker Blues... Which one? There are 6 alternate takes of it, and I can't tell them apart. The sessions with Koz and Tesh are hard to forget.

Another Mosaic to avoid is the GRP SMOOTH JAZZ MASTERPIECES collection.

Dracula is LIKE horrible. UH...I never enjoyed that version. The actor I can't take is Kevin Costner. He makes Keanu seem dynamic. -
I heard the Tesh set is FULL of alternate takes. I can't wait to hear that!

tranemonk, I hope you'll tell us what option you chose.

I'm glad I SKIPPED this one.

I just noticed today 2/3 was your birthday. I wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both of you!

Okay, there is more of the soloing on track 5, but it works here for me since it's a cool cover of Albert King's I'll Play the Blues For You. I can see myself listening to this album quite a bit.

Just don't get turned into a Vic Morrow clone! Yikes! -
That's what my concern is about this release (at least from the two tunes I've heard). When the guitar is soloing, it just sounds pretty whack to me. (I guess whether that's a "good" sort of whack, or a "bad" sort of whack, or maybe a baaaad sort of whack -- remains to be seen) Spontoonious was over here last week, and we both gave a listen -- and I think his reaction was similar. Wish the tone of his guitar wasn't so biting -- so damn electric. A more laid-back tone might have worked better for me. The "busy"-ness wasn't what bothered me, so much as the tone. I agree, RT. The guitar ruins the second track for me. I'm on my second listen and I think that's the only track that bothered me. Otherwise, I like a lot of the textures. On that second track (Jump Up), I guess I wish the guitar tone was a little less overdriven and processed. The cat is playing some cool stuff at times, but the tones of the guitar and piano don't mesh with me. But, JaMo is playing the hell out of the piano on the track.

I agree with Alexander. The guitarist does add some nice textures. I'm not thrilled when he starts soloing, but the textures are COOL.

Too bad your kid is not Jesus, or you'd make some $$$ on that blankie. If he was Jesus and I took his blankie, I'd probably end up as a pillar of salt. or... be sent to the corn field, like in the old Twilight Zone episode. -
Be careful at work - I wouldn't describe track 2 as sedate. I don't know where I stand on this. I'm on my first listen and I like parts of it and don't like parts of it. I should listen a few more times before I even make a comment. I'll probably end up liking it. There are some cool parts. I've purchased every JaMo release (as a leader) and I usually enjoy his stuff.

The Gomer Pyle was a joke I posted last night in the Mosaic thread. Sorry to hijack this one. Ron, I'll see about that Welk set. I don't know where your Mosaic collection stands, but do you have all the older sets (the ones that have been available the longest) that you want? There are a lot of older sets that I consider essential that are probably close to extinction. 187-MD-CD: HRS Sessions 181-MD-CD: Hank Mobley 170-MD-CD: Capitol Jazz 169-MD-CD: J.J. Johnson These would be the sets I'd consider first, if you haven't already. Good luck!

I have my Border's coupon in hand and I am heading out the door!

You forgot to mention the Jim Nabors set. Especially the 3 discs of alternate takes of "Gawwwwwlee!" and "Shazam!" It brought tears to my eyes and it brought up my lunch. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!

I had the strangest experience last night. My 3 1/2 year old son had a bad dream and got into our bed during the night. I woke up this morning and the way his blankie (don't laugh - you'll be parents someday) was folded and how the shadows sat on it, there was HIS image on it. It looked like some sort of Shroud of Turin with my sons profile on it. I know it wasn't an acid flashback or anything... -

It looks like Q-bert to me (from the old videogame). -
The way I look at it is this, get the set now that will be the hardest to buy later. My choices: A) If coming up with $150 bucks is difficult, then I'd say get the Stitt set now because you're 2/3 of the way there with your gift card. That's only if you really want the Stitt set. If you're not sure about it, then I'd listen to more Stitt from that era so you'll know what you're getting. B) Both the Farlow and the Eldridge will be very good, but they should be around for a while. Plus, you will need to cough up another $25 or so for these w/shipping. I have the Johnny Smith set also, but I wish I had the Farlow instead. I know I need to give it a chance, but it hasn't knocked my socks off. C) The Columbia Swing Sessions are new, so they'll be around for a while, but I bet that's a really good set. You'll have to cough up another $40 or so for this also. D) The Selects. My personal top priority Mosaic set right now is the Andrew Hill Select, only because I've been waiting a long time to hear this music. One advantage of the Selects is their lower price. It's much easier to come up with $50 to order a Select (especially if it starts to run low). I also believe they will sell out much quicker because of their lower price. Fortunately, these are new sets so they'll be around a while. F) Don't send him the gift card, send it to me instead. So... If you really really really really want the Stitt, I'd say the answer would be A. If not, I'd go with option B or C - I'd get the Farlow or the Columbia set. I know, I'm no help.

Aric's right. I had the debut Brian Wilson Smile concert within two days of the show. There were numerous audience recordings. Heck, if Clapton filmed the Crossroads Benefit concert, the Cream reunion will definitely be filmed.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Good one, AfricaBrass! Thanks! I know it's not April 1st yet, but I DO have too much time on my hands.
