  1. I'm predicting it will be well picked out into an intimidating, vision-obscuring fro. Big Ben's a baaaad man.
  2. Speaking of Chick, I couldn't believe that bum Al Michaels had the rotten gall to put the game in "the fridge" as last night's game came to an end. He's not even in the same GALAXY as Chick.
  3. Criticize things you don't know about Be oblong and have your knees removed
  4. The Lakers are still in it, thanks to Shaq's and-one and Kobe's heroics. Down 6 with 53 seconds left, I thought we were sunk! I think the Lakers should continue running that p&r from the left wing with Kobe next game.
  5. I started at 16, so 12 years ago. 8 years of serious collecting (finances permitting). Started out buying a little Coltrane and a little Miles, and lots of CTI electric piano type dates. Now I have moved on to hard bop, and the jazz that preceded hard bop has started to sound different. I may focus on Mingus next, since I have been returning to Mingus Ah Um a lot lately. I feel I am always exploring, and most of what is established in jazz is new to me.
  6. I do as much "exploring" as my sad little bank account can bear.
  7. Ditto your first sentiment! Wow, I think you're right--it is that Icelandic little pixie. I don't care for her take on this one, but I agree the instrumentation is nice.
  8. DOH! Of course, I have a song and didn't recognize it. I haven't listened to the cd that Track 3 comes from in a long time, I'll have to correct that.
  9. Many thanks to Daniel A for the really cool compilation! I dig the envelope's Swedish postage markings, and neatly cut the side so I could keep it as a permanent cover. I'll venture some guesses and give a star rating this time around, with five stars being the highest possible rating. 1. "Manteca" - Charles Earland? ****1/2 2. George Shearing? ***1/2 3. Donald Byrd & Pepper Adams? **** 4. Oscar Peterson? **** 5. Woody Shaw? **** 6. Tommy Flanagan? ***1/2 7. No guess. **** 8. "Maiden Voyage" - Ahmad Jamal? Herbie himself, maybe? ***** 9. Coltrane-ish...Clifford Jordan? ***** 10. Yusef Lateef? ***1/2 11. Eric Dolphy? **** 12. "I Cover The Waterfront" - No idea. I like the version I heard in the soundtrack from the movie Joe Vs. The Volcano much better... *** 13. Junior Mance? **** 14. Getz? ***1/2 15. Fun stuff, no clue. *** Great music! Many thanks again, Daniel A. Now to read the other responses!
  10. Best of luck in the new digs, AB. Take care.
  11. Happy Birthday Ray!
  12. I'm listening to the disc for the third time through, Daniel A! Thank you very much. I have my responses ready to go for the discussion thread.
  13. I do that a lot too--the chicks dig it! I had a friend of a friend pay me $20 for three cdr comps. I said I'd give them to him for free since they were cdrs, but he insisted on paying.
  14. I will be $pending a week in Maui at the beginning of July, my first trip to Hawaii ever. B)
  15. I've made so many cd compilations that I've actually given away two shoeboxes snugly full of cdrs in slim jewel cases to a few friends--so that I could start the whole compilation process over and place the tracks in different sequences. Is it OCD yet?
  16. At least your mountains are green at some point, Rainy--down here in the desert we have year-round brown kindling ready to go up in a firestorm.
  17. There are gems to be found in fusion, it is just as valid to me. There is simply more great music found in other, more prolific styles.
  18. How 'bout Kareem Rush!!!!!! Nice effort by the refs to extend the series, but there will be no seventh game. Rip's free throw technique is a smart one, IMO. His little dribble to the side makes it more like a catch and shoot situation--it helps him square up to the basket.
  19. Did iTunes provide the artists?
  20. Hey Brandon Burke, Song titles came up when I used the search function on my software. Still no artists, but a step in the right direction: Blow To My Soul! 16 Garage Funk Hits 1. Prologue 2. Yeah Yeah 3. Cynthy-Ruth 4. Mama, Here Comes The Preacher 5. Showstopper 6. Dancing In The Light 7. Blind Man 8. Life Is A Game 9. I Believe I Found Myself 10. Potted Shrimp 11. Paper Man 12. Get High 13. The Devil Made Me Do It 14. Alladin Story 15. What's Good For The Goose 16. Who Am I? 17. Epilogue 18. Corruption Is The Thing
  21. More Lonshein paintings, please!
  22. Though I am by no means a Coltrane expert, I can highly recommend Africa Brass. It was one of the first jazz albums I ever heard, and remains one I like very much. I am unfamiliar with the ones on your list, though I have heard Ascension praised very highly from many different sources...
  23. Every time I read this thread title, I think some kid must have stuck a card in the spokes that he shouldn't have...
  24. Now that I've bought two Mosaic sets, I am even more disappointed to read about the sets I missed out on--and it takes every fiber of my being to keep me from maxing out my credit cards to buy more of the available sets.
