Not one I've played as much as some of the others from the Rare Groove series. The overall impression this album communicates to me is that these musicians were having a good time playing these tunes together...it sounds like fun. The only other Patton-led album I have is ACCENT ON THE BLUES, also one I've somewhat neglected. I'm enjoying "Amanda" so much right now it is apparent I need to listen to GOT A GOOD THING GOIN' more. I'm following it up with Lou Donaldson GOOD GRACIOUS to further my studies of Big Bad John. B)

Thanks jacman! Maybe I won't watch the rest of the series after all...

I keep getting booted off the board. I click on the last page of a thread, then hit back on my browser when I'm through reading and it says "the page cannot be displayed."

It would be really cool if the DVD had all the old footage of Son House and the other bluesmen in an unedited, uncut state--I wanted to hear the whole songs... I enjoyed the first installment, I'll watch more.

I like it, especially the track "Dirty Old Bossa Nova" made famous through sampling by A Tribe Called Quest. Not sure if it measures up to the other two records I listed, but it's some good greeeaazzzey fun. I'm also not sure if what I think is worth it will measure up to your standards or not, Mark.

I'll keep a cd if I like just one song on it. I love coming across a disc I haven't played in a long time, popping it in and experiencing it again. I used to have a completist urge, but when my eyes were opened to the sheer numbers of recordings of jazz artists I set my sights on getting only the best output from any given artist. Cross-referencing AMG to posts on these jazz forums works wonders. My collection has been hugely enhanced since I first showed up on BNBB asking, "Jazz Experts, Lend Me Your Brains." B) Fan, not a collector.

Classic! It's lo-og, lo-og! It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's lo-og, lo-og! It's better than bad, it's good! -
Wow, I've never seen it but I wouldn't doubt it. Stranger things have happened...

AMG shows it being a 2001 release.

Wish I had more to offer discussion-wise, Dan. At most I can say, 'yeah, that sounds right' about other's guesses. FWIW I really dig the disc, I'm enjoying other's responses, and I'm looking forward to the answers.

Some list there, Dr J. The whole OOP business really chaps my hide. Picked up Lee Morgan THE PROCRASTINATOR...didn't know it wasn't issued at the time it was recorded. When did it originally come out?

Soulstation, the skips are only the result of your computer's mp3 player not reading them well. If they will extract, they will burn onto the cd and play normal. Try to play them with the player that is built into your cd burner.

Was I the only one whose files were coming in at breakneck speed last night? It was amazing--whole albums in like 3 minutes. I figured it was due to Hurricane Isabel knocking so many folks off-line.

I'm stoked, I just got mine in the mail, and I'm listening as I type. It is so damn cool to put sounds to the screen names of B-3er, Joe G, and randissimo. Really great so far, I'm knee deep in greeeaazzze over here! Hats off to Ron Blake too! Wow, "Life Wish" just started...this is awesome. Thanks guys. HUGE -

Never too late to start!! I'm always collecting doubles for trading purposes. Don't have any extras at the moment, but I'm sure I can keep an eye out for you. Thanks Conn! I reluctantly have avoided them due to the larger price. I've seen some 2cd sets for like $27...I bet they're worth every penny. Eventually I will break down and invest, when finances permit. I've actually spent a few hundred dollars in the last week, time to take a break for a month or so--just locked my credit card away to keep from impulse-buying.
