  1. My last three cantaloupes have been like candy.
  2. The photographs are gorgeous, Stefan! Expertly composed with really nice timing on the figures you candidly captured (speaking specifically on the Chinatown photos).
  3. Even if true, one must wonder about the editing facilities of a writer willing to indulge such a detail. I mean, aren't there more tasteful tidbits to include as enticement for an audience enthusiastic about Mr. Ellington?
  4. What the shit? A really solid bowel movement is the mystical experience of being healthy, at which point one feels one with the universe.
  5. I can relate, Stefan. Although I just had a painting in a show for the first time last night, I have also experienced the difficulty in finding free time to paint. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos!
  6. Hell yeah!
  7. I made no snarky comments from my end of the West Coast. No need to tempt fate. Earthquakes are scary as hell, and from what I understand the shaking covers a larger area in the East because the bedrock is solid. Plus the buildings aren't built to the same safety code, so they sway more. The noise of an earthquake is a singular experience, it's such a horrible roar. A rumble in Virginia, a grumble in Colorado...the whispering worry in the back of my mind is the big volcano between them that we call Yellowstone.
  8. Having recently invested in a Kindle, I've been seeking recommendations. I read a few fantasy novels by Patrick Rothfuss which were actually quite enjoyable, the first two in his Name Of The Wind series. Fun magical medieval stuff. Fast reading, and some very memorable moments. Wanting something entirely different, I downloaded Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, what a friend described as "Japanese surrealism." I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and enjoying it quite a bit even if I'm left a bit bewildered by the plot. I'll have to download a few of the suggestions in this thread.
  9. Stone Coal White I'm curious to hear this reissue, since I have one track from this band on a bootleg compilation of obscure funk called Chains & Black Exhaust. Their song was one of the best ones on it.

    Sly Stone

Not much to add except I love Sly! It's too bad his demons got the better of him. Sad to think he's still with us but simply not coherent enough to perform. "Remember Who You Are" isn't on the box set, it's a classic.
  11. Wow, so it's Bettie Page!
  12. Fighting has never been my bag as it is. I'm just saying I've got more respect for guys who square up and fight each other head to head than those who gang punch one guy or cheap shot someone from behind with a chair.
  13. As much as I like basketball, they must have the most sissified fights ever. Hitting guys with chairs from behind, such cheap shots. The hockey guys are the only ones who brawl one-on-one, toe-to-toe like real men.
  14. I don't have to cheat to know the French vixen posted earlier is Anouk Aimee, since I ran across pictures of her while researching images for paintings. I've had this picture of Anouk in a scrolling batch of desktop images for over a year.
  15. I have the Elvin Jones twofer with the same graphic layout. Also have a Sonny Rollins two-LP compilation which fits the bill.
  16. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
  17. No, but apparently this guy thought Phil's hairstyle was just the look he was searching for.
  18. Who's this?
  19. Val, did you cheat?
  20. Belinda Carlisle?
  21. James Earl Jones?
  22. Ready to pick 'em. Thanks vajerzy!
  23. RIP. I have a percussion-only version of "Big Noise From Winnetka" by Mr. Delaney that I love. It's on a bootleg compilation. Anyone know what it's originally from?
