  1. I'm glad Afflalo (UCLA) is contributing! He's a good shooter, that goes a long way in the NBA. Like Walton, his only weakness is foot speed and therefore defense.
  2. Good to read your procedure went well, Bruce. Walton's not gone, he's just riding the pine because the team is playing better with him there. I like Walton's passing ability, it's a shame he's not fleeter of foot. You're right about Ariza, that was a great acquisition. Kupchak's proving a lot of fans were hasty to judge him (me included). Boston's lack of depth might be their undoing in the end. They sure are fun to watch right now though!
  3. More Belated Birthday Salutations!
  4. Wish I could help, but neither is ringing any bells for me.
  5. Damn, I'm sorry to read this, Jazzmoose. Stay strong, man. Whatever happens, please point your antlers back in the direction of the board! It ain't the same here without you.
  6. Best wishes for a swift recovery, Phil!

  8. I'm predicting you'll love this one, Noj. There are some GREAT MF compositions by Thad and others. Your prediction is correct, Free!
  9. Sounds like some sort of post-birth molting.
  10. I love listening to the original blues tunes Zeppelin "borrowed" from in contrast to the arrangements Page and Plant came up with. LZ really had a nicely developed style and so much of what they recorded stands the test of time to my ears. Their version of "Traveling Riverside Blues" is available on the box set. The lyrics "squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg" probably kept it a B-Side and not an album cut.
  11. Belated greets to jmjk!
  12. Count Basie - Chairman Of The Board
  13. No giant lightshow, but we've got the scariest little doll on our porch, one of those animatronic Christmas carollers with an artificial candle in his hand. We've had it for years and my niece loved it when she was a small child so the folks love to get it out every year. It used to wave its arms around and move its head to the music it used to play. Now the music and arms don't work and only the head moves in this disturbingly psychotic manner. I have nightmares that it's tapping on my window and looking at me while I sleep. "My name is Talking Tina, and I don't like you."

  15. I thought this thread could use a theme song.
  16. There's always more to discover in jazz. I'll probably go on a female jazz vocalists binge one of these years.
  17. Not to speak in T.O.'s defense, but having seen Jeff Garcia in interviews I must say he seems the most unlikely person to be a quarterback. He seems a bit "wimpy." And yet, he's a pretty damned good quarterback.
  18. I rarely heard music without a singer growing up. I used to prize the few instrumental tracks I knew, those weird interludes on rock and rap albums. It was relieving, like "at last, they put a lid on the singer." Then I discovered there's a whole world of instrumental music out there, so I indulged heavily in it. I've largely ignored jazz singers for this reason.
  19. If I were the Celtics, I'd be sure Ray Allen gets the ball for that last shot. Maybe leave Pierce on the bench.
  20. I listened to the whole set last night. It was my first time hearing several of the albums, including the one with Duke Ellington which is an instant favorite.
  21. My copy just arrived.
  22. One ugly loss and T.O. starts mouthing off about the quarterback's girlfriend.
