  1. Now is the time for all good men to.... PARTY!!!!!!!! Happy birthday, Greg!
  2. There are a lot of chess programs for kids in New York City, in and out of schools. You might want to look at nychesskids.com. I'm not sure how current this info is on P.S. 116, but if Bonnie Waitzkin is still reachable at the phone/email listed, she is a wonderful teacher, and incredibly sweet. She's great with kids of all ages, but I can't think of anybody better with really little kids, and I think it'd be a huge plus for a little girl to be taught by a woman. (I'll PM you if I get a definitive contact for her.) Edit for a P.S.: Bonnie was played by Joan Allen in the movie "Searching for Bobby Fischer" -- about having a chess-prodigy child (her son Josh), and how to nurture that kind of gift but still have a normal well-adjusted kid -- she has been a devoted chess teacher and coach in public schools for about 25 years, very generous, sweet and level-headed.
  3. Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Daniel! Glad to see you back!
  4. Many happy returns, Brownie!!!
  5. Happy birthday, young Scorpio!!! (well, maybe not quite THAT young) And it's Friday night, too!!! Have a great time -- looking forward to the report!!!

  7. Thanks everybody!!!! The party got interrupted but it's extra nice to get back here after waiting so long!!!! Also thanks to those who said Happy Birthday on that now-deleted thread elsewhere, Catesta and Berigan and Rachel and Rainy and... (sorry if I'm forgetting someone) and... thanks to Mike Ricci for hosting it even if he didn't say Happy Birthday!) Those Catesta desserts and Peter's mention of Indian food are reminding me it's dinnertime... Better hurry over to Catesta's party and see what's happening there... And Brownie's. And Daniel A's.
  8. I generally don't like to correct others typos and grammar, but don't you mean "It's like the internets were broken"????
  9. And here I just logged on -- my first attempt in about 36 hours!!! Too much work to do -- "O" being down got me back into nose-to-the-grindstone mode. Oh no!!!
  10. Thanks, all! Kind of amazing, what a strong feeling of friendship you can get online, isn't it? Gotta run to a rehearsal, which actually feels like a great way to spend part of my birthday... Already had a "Happy Birthday" tenor solo played over the phone for me by a dear friend (with an offer similar to JS's -- no joke! -- is it the saxophone or is it me? Now I guess I need this smilie -- it's blushing, right?). Couw, I believe your cake won't get stale -- whenever it arrives (2005?) I'm sure it'll be great!
  11. Hope you have a great birthday! All the best! [Edit: spelling... such big words!]
  12. And Natasha Lyonne as Opal, one of the little playhouse-neighbor-kids. And S. Epatha Merkerson (now the matronly Lieutenant Van Buren of Law & Order) as Reba the mail lady. And Benicio Del Toro as the dog-faced boy.
  13. Definitely one of my all-time favorite moments! But my favorite episode (Season 1 or 2? not sure) was when Cowboy Curtis (Laurence Fishburne) was nervous about his upcoming date with Miss Yvonne, so PeeWee volunteered to play "Miss Yvonne" on a practice date! At the end of the evening, on PeeWee's doorstep, Cowboy Curtis leaned in for a kiss. PeeWee held up his hand in classic "talk-to-the-hand" mode and gushed, in his falsetto voice, "We've had such a lovely time -- let's not spoil it!"
  14. So where's the PeeWee's Playhouse thread?
  15. til hamingju með afmælið !!!!!!!
  16. EXTRA inexcusably late, Or WAY too early, Still, happy birthday, John!
  17. Happy belated birthday from me, too... we have something in common:

    Roger Miller

Roger Miller was a big, welcome part of the soundtrack of my childhood... "King of the Road"... "Kansas City Star"... (but it was Bobby Russell who wrote the words and music to "Little Green Apples")
  19. Perhaps the tuning knobs are at the other end of the strings? Possibly a Steinberger bass? The tuning knobs ARE at the pick-up end, and often (especially on whammy-bar models) with an automatic "calibrator" for rapid re-tuning.
  20. Second that emotion.
  21. Yikes -- I've just had a BUSY week, so I didn't see these posts until today. Glad everything worked out okay, Al, and Joe, hope your wife is feeling better.
  22. Congratulations, and keep: up the good work on keeping on your eyes on the prize the faith, baby
