  1. thanks David for the heads-up ! The Ella's are tempting.... Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: The Nina Simone on Verve/Phillips for 15£ might be as a great deal... EDIT2: haven't seen that before but Amazon.uk.co properly calculates the slightly lower german VAT rates Thx !
  2. Hi DAvid, you can be very sure to get the ZYX remasters if the text element states them to be 20bit or 24bit remastered. If the text simply say's remastered, I would guess in more than 70% you will get the US disc's printed by ZYX so I would rather go for those. Lets say it that way: the less prominent the musician the more likely it is that you get the US masters. YOu need to note that within the ZYX catalog they always offered the ZYX aside the regular US master as well so they do have had both on stock. My experience with those is ZYX is mixed, some are good, the majority seemed to be ok, a minority I rated as ugly but only very few, I was able to compare different masterings (some Wes Montgomery e.g) Hope that helps, Tjobbe EDIT: you need to differentiate between "printed by ZYX" and "re-mastered" ! The printed by simply means they manufactured those. The US stuff normally is jewel case.
  3. jpc.de just (or still) lists again the Basie for 67€, the Golson, Farlow, Eldridge for 60€, the Mulligan at 50€ and the Rich Set at 90€ No Sign of the Oliver Nelson in Europe though.... Cheers, Tjobbe
  4. I guess we should properly devide between the "industrie's" interest in earing money based on selling "Units" compared to the fact that there are young musicians out either supported by small focused labels only or completely on their own. For the industrie even "tradional" war horses like Van Morrison are no longer of commercial interest not saying anything about their "music". The trend in music bizz seems to be a McMusic approach that should serve the taste of everyone to be commercially succussful and Jazz don't fit into that as being a very individual creation and listening experience by nature. Being asked on how much "new" versus remaster I'm buying, it is about 30% post 2000 stuff versus 70% older material, but for the new productions by mainly smaller labels only I'm normally paying more per Unit compared to those "mid-price" BlueNotes/Fantasy stuff, so all in all when it comes to money its a 50/50 rate. Cheers, Tjobbe
  5. after their re-design, they dropped the english version...but send me a PM and let me know what you need, I might be able to help with "enhanced personal translation services" Cheers, Tjobbe
  6. that's a nice set specially the booklet, but you can also get a 4CD box from one of those Good Time Jazz artists called Lu Watters. Not sure about though but for 9€ as well...
  7. @n-o-f: I got two of those Ellington set's and those are the older remasters but not sure if that can sound any better anyway. For its a historical document rather, so there I haven't paid to much attention to it. So of those individual 2,99€ CD's that I found worth checking out are one Erik Kloss CD, some Mabern, Waldron, four Lee Konitz records, the Mastersounds 2LP on 1 compilation, a John La Porta THEME AND VARIATIONS, there are 5 Tjader two-in-one's for those not having got them, The 9/11 Rollins and +3 for 2,99€, some Eric Alexander stuff, four McCoy Tyners (one suspisions being 24Bit ZYX), some Shelley Manne like the Sun of the Gunn or the Checkmate( a great one !), a lot of the Joe Pass on Pablo singles, one 2CD Johnny Hodges at the Sportpalast that I haven't heard of before, l ot of Ella and Basie on Pablo (where you need to be aware that some as well can be ZYX remasters), etc... Luckily that 2001 Fantasy sale items and a 2005 bonus paid this month are somehow a coinsidence that cannot be considers anything else than Karma Cheers, Tjobbe
  8. For the next "Merkheft", it seems that 2001 is throwing away lot's individual CDs from the ZYX overstock and lot of "not that prominent second level names" for 2€ and 3€ each, mostly US masters, some original but even a lot of the twoLP on 1CD compilation available as well. (Note: some of the infamous 20/24 Bit remasters are within the batch that should be itentifiable by the 20bit/24Bit name tag within the notes). Easiest way to list all those is by entering the label names into the search box on top right, filter by CD and get them listed.... Although, no sign of other box set's yet... but the Debut is at 9€ now but they have the 10CD CCR box for 25€ in stock.(should be the one from 1992 where I'm not 1005 sure if this for its sonical performance is a real bargain) Cheers, Tjobbe
  9. got back late yesterday already, so to late to accomodate your wishes , but hey..I'm in Paris again twice in May and June for minimum a day each (if strike allows..) Cheers, Tjobbe
  10. thanks couw, so that's basically the collection of several individual Vogue albums than (as I'm after the Tilt and the Solal anyway making this a good deal than) so I'll have a look when I'm in Paris next week or the week after... Cheers, Tjobbe just sitting here at Charles de Gaulle and waiting for my flight, just want to quickly confirm that the box contains the previously individually available 10 Vogue albums in specially packaged box set. The disks ar eindividually packaged in a papersleeve and with a generic art work´not showing any reference to the original black vogue re-issues. The booklet is comprehensive and list each record with session information and line-up although all liner notes are in french only (but that shouldn't be a problem) I bought it on the fly at a Virgian Superstore today for 23€ and that's still a steal as e.g. Amazon.de still lists the individual ones for 12-14€ each ! So if you get to Paris... Cheers, Tjobbe
  11. the real royal birthday is on 18th..have a great one Flurin ! Cheers, Oliver

  13. Hi Jim, not sure if it helps although not using a Roku but other gear but sharing some "basic thoughts": I've started to use a media server based on a Linksys NSLU2 NAS (running a stripped down Linux with two USB-drives attached) to avoid my PC being up and running all the time. The Media Server is from Twonky and runs on PC as well as on some specific stand-alone NAS. Right now I'm using a TG100 for Audio/Video in my living room but searching for an "HighEndAudio" Streamer. I've decided there to look for one that allows both a Digital OUt as well as playing LossLess Formats /in that case FLAC) and found the Slim Devices gadget being a neat but slightly more expensive toy than the Soundbridge. All modules are connected through W-LAN 54Mb/s with WPA enabled and it works well at my place but I hear from others that specially the encryption can cause trouble. One thing you want to check when using wireless streaming clients here is that they support WPA/WPA2 properly in case you run that with your laptop or PC: Note that the encryption might not be that important for Audio data but you can set-up your access point only in one operation mode. Hope that helps for now (as myself still being in a "play-with-that-toy" phase) Cheers, Oliver
  14. I confeess ! Up to last week I haven't had any Erroll Garner in my collection ...but now I have Cheers, Tjobbe

  17. thanks couw, so that's basically the collection of several individual Vogue albums than (as I'm after the Tilt and the Solal anyway making this a good deal than) so I'll have a look when I'm in Paris next week or the week after... Cheers, Tjobbe

  22. FYI: just found the Coltrane BigBox (see this LINK showing the packaging) in LP size on my desk, looks great, as well as the MJQ 4er come in a hard-box and is a big surprise to me. The Miles Davis 4 CD box contains the the orginal end-of-80's US mastering... Best regards, Tjobbe
  23. by nature I need to comment on that ...this was a great concert at Leverkusen, and luckily I was there when it was recorded (as the location being 30km away from my home only) HERE you can get a bit more background on the Radio BigBand based in Cologne. One musician you should have close look at specially when you hear him live is the man playing organ and piano Frank Chastenier (recorded some records as leader as well as with Till Brönner). He doesn'l looklike that but he's a vulcano when playing the B3 on stage) When you check the bands CD titles records, you'll find them playing Rock as well as free with a multitude of different major artist. Highly recommended.... BTW: the Brecker Bros one is available as well as SA-CD over here..... Cheers, Tjobbe
  24. @Claude: what does the entry for Luxemberg say ? Cheers, Tjobbe
  25. Ed, although not brownie, would want to let you know that public transport/service will be on strike on Tuesday (at least than, the start can be properly determined but the end ). I already re-scheduled my planned business trip already on local advise.... so don't be to surprised about the "un-usual chaos" there...the "usual chaos" normally has its charme. Cheers, Tjobbe
