  1. At first listen Monk's Casino didn't do much for me. Now after 4 listens, I really love it. The music is full of weird angles, quirks and eccentricities, but still swings. Out-there but also very much in the pocket. For those interested, I thin dimeadozen.com has several other live perfomances available to torrent.
  2. They've also got the Mobley Mosaic for $72.
  3. Can anybody read Italian?
  4. I knew somebody would say that. Trust me, Mosaic has LOTS of my money!
  5. Deep Discount has the Jazz Crusaders Mosaic box for $87.56, $14.44 less than Mosaic & free shipping. When I ordered it on Monday they said it would ship on 3/2/07, but on Wednesday they notifed me that it had shipped. And while writing this email the UPS guy knocked on my door & delivered it. #1371. Cool.
  6. When listening to my ipod I not infrequently get short gaps or interuptions of no sound (less than a second). Any idea what might be causing this? Don't think its a short in my earphones because the gaps aren't related to movement of the cord or anything like that. Thanks.
  7. My wife is coming with me to the stero shop tomorrow to check out the Paradigm Monitor 7s. She wants little bookself speakers that she could hide in the living room & is concerned about the size of these. She suggests I liquor her up first.
  8. No bass to spare. Sorry.
  9. Gonna have to pick this up. My current obsession is sax/drum duos.
  10. Just visited yourmusic.com and all CDS were 6.99 till I logged in and then they were 5.99.

    Anthony Braxton

I like the classic quartet stuff w/ Marilyn Crispell, Mark Dresser & Gerry Hemingway. There's 3 2 disc sets on Leo from a 1985 tour of Britian. Called Birmingham, Coventry & London I believe. All 3 highly recommended. In college I worked with a student organization that booked him for a performance. Duo with a female pianist whose name I can't recall. Would have been Winter or Spring of 1981. My 1st exposure to Braxton & at that time I could not relate. Didn't get into his music till 10+ years later. Anyway, Braxton forgot his wallet & one my buddies lent $10 for food.
  12. I do have volume controls for all pairs. Can recommend a good speaker selector box?
  13. How do you "run 5 pairs"? Do you simply twist all 5 wires together and stick them into one terminal or do you run the + to speaker 1 and the - of speaker 1 to the + of speaker 2 etc? If you want to do a set-up like that right, you should look into a speaker switch box. It's been years since I looked into one, but Niles used to make a decent, inexpensive speaker box. If you're going to drive 5 parallel pairs of speakers out of an amp designed to drive 2, don't be surprised if it fries. If you've been doing that for 15 years with your NAD, it definitely makes sense to bring that amp into a service shop and get it fixed. It's a good one. The pairs of wires are twisted together. This was all professionally installed by Audio Emporium, THE high end audio store in the Milwaukee area.
  14. My local library has a copy of Constellation!!!
  15. In most cases running 1 or 2 pair. For a dinner party might run 3 pair. For the annual St. Patrick's Day party may run 5 pairs. Have never had a problem in 15 years. Of course I don't crank them up like I used to in my youth.
  16. Well, Wynton Marsalis obviously.
  17. I checked out the Outlaw Audio website and some reviews. I'm intrigued. Would the RR2150 handle all the speakers I have (3 pair polk inwall, one pair B&W ourdoor & one pair B&W CDMs). What charactoristics should I look for in an amp for all these speakers? Thanks.
  18. Since the Cobblestone re-issues are OOP, would anybody be willing to burn them for me? I would (of course) buy the legit releases should (when) they are re-issued again. Thanks.
  19. Sadly, the Cobblestone re-issues are OOP and going for major $$$$.
  20. Cool. Thanks. Love the Roost recordings re-issued on Mosaic as well.
  21. The Lennie Tristano box put out by Poper has been calling me, but so far I've not pulled the trigger. Anybody heard it? Your thoughts? Thanks.
  22. I wasn't considering vinage gear, but I saw a pair of Klipsch KG4s for $350. My brother-in-law has had a pair for years & I've always envied him. Used to crank up the Grateful Dead on those when he wasn't around. Never heard acoustic jazz on them though. Seriously thinking about the Rotel 1062 and Paradigm Monitor 7 or 9.
  23. I was seriously considering this till I saw it was MP3 only. For $70 I would expect lossless (FLAC) files.
  24. Paradigm has an excellent reputation for delivering a lot of sound for the money. I've had a pair of Atoms in my office for many years. I'm thinking about the Monitor 7s for home. The Paradigm website (http://www.paradigm.com/Website/News/news3.html) has links to reviews. List is $649.
  25. Under $1K for for each.
