  1. My NAD receiver (about 15 years old) has been acting up and in need of replacing. I drive 3 pairs of Polk in-wall speakers, 1 pair of outdoor B&Ws and 1 pair of B&W CDMs. I'm also looking to replace the CDMs cause they've never had enough tweeter for me and also now the tweeters cut in and out. All speaker are also about 15 years old. Am looking for recommendations to replace the NAD and CDMs. And I'm on a budget! Your thoughts please? Am especially interested in an inexpensive simple 2 channel power source. Thanks!
  2. I bought Stitt's Bits box and am digging it. The booklet talks about some 1970s recordings on Cobblestone. Have these been re-issued? If so on what label, are they in print, etc. Thanks.
  3. Andrew Hill's Compulsion is very good news. It's the only material I'm missing from the Mosaic set.
  4. Very much worth checking out. Statrt with Tons of Sobs. Their first and best. If you like that get Fire and Water (with All Right Now).
  5. Free "Live at the BBC" is supposed to be released today I believe. Anyone know if this material has been previously released on the box set or as alternate tracks on reissues of the orginal albums? Thanks.
  6. Diito regarding Morning Joy. It has Potts though. But then I like Lacy & Potts together.
  7. $45 at the Concord website. Pretty reasonable.
  8. Any word on when Peter Keepnews's biography of Thelonious Monk is coming out?
  9. Has Andrew Hill "Compulsion" ever been issued on CD? I know its in the Mosiac box. Has Blue Note re-issued in as a single? Is it available in Japan? Thanks.
  10. Any particular 70s Abercrombie you like to recommend to me? Thanks. Gateway and Timeless, both on ECM. Guy Thanks!
  11. Got to agree. I'd also toss in John Abercrombie. Got a strong dislike for that long drawn-out sustain they use that almost sounds like an organ. I'm a huge fan of the 70s Abercrombie sound, but not of the 90s Abercrombie sound. Guy Any particular 70s Abercrombie you like to recommend to me? Thanks.
  12. Got to agree. I'd also toss in John Abercrombie. Got a strong dislike for that long drawn-out sustain they use that almost sounds like an organ. Mark Saleski says "Sco's torqued and phase-washed sound is far removed from the purity of a Jim Hall or a Wes Montgomery." So when I bought a live disc w/ Joe Lovano & Jim Hall a year or two ago I was very disappointed to find that Hall had adopted this same tone. Bummer. For the polar opposite put on the Mosaic Tal Farlow. DUDE!!!!
  13. My advice is to take a pass on wireless headphones. A few months ago I bought & returned four different models from 4 different manufacturers before concluding they just don't work. While the Sennheiser was the best of the lot, they were still far from acceptable. They sounded ok when sitting upright in my recliner, but lots of static when I reclined. Reception (and static) came and went as I walked thru the house.
  14. I'd like to acquire the Mulligan Quartet material. What "in print" CDs do I need to get? Thanks.
  15. The Blakely Mosaic includes both vols. of Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World. It does not include Africane. It does include Pisces which has been relased in Japan only. Here's the list as per the Mosaic booklet: The Big Beat A Night in Tunisia Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World Vol. 1 Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World Vol. 2 The Freedom Rider Like Someone in Love The Witch Doctor Roots & Herbs Pisces
  16. Documents is a now defunct German label reissuing vintage jazz. I recently picked up their "Best of Boogie Woogie" 10 CD set at the Jazz Record mart in Chicago (while I was in town to see ICP) for $30. They do a great job of remastering, but no recording session info. Great stuff! Enough boogie woogie piano to satisfy all but the most obessive collector! The Jazz Record Mart has a number of the Documents 10 CD sets priced to move at $30 each. Check it out!
  17. I saw ICP Orchestra at the Hot House in Chicago Saturday nite & enjoyed them very much. They ran out of their new disk so I didn't get one. Anybody know the name of the disc and a possible source? Thanks.
  18. Mama told not to get involved in stupids threads like this . . .
  19. I'm taking mine back for a proper copy.
  20. Just opened my copy of Dexter Gordon's "Gettin' Around." The disc has absolutely no label printed on it. Both sides look the same. The music's there though . . .
  21. My kid's got a Creative Zen. I was not pleased with the sound quality.
  22. I figure the 60GB is the way to go for a music obsessive like me, but am looking for opinions from those who have used them. The 4GB Nano is appealing due to it's size. Will I really need all that storage? What file format/compression balances top flight sound with managable file size? Thanks.
  23. Looking for a good home: Nels Cline Singers - "Instrumentals" Sonny Clark - "Dial S for Sonny"
  24. Profits go right into the CD collection!
