  1. PM sent re the VAO discs. peter@zwiefelhofer.com
  2. If you mean bluesman Jimmy Rogers, he's already had similar treatment years ago: Complete Chess Recordings Yup.
  3. All three of these just blow me away! Jackie McLean, Complete 1955-57. Obviously not his best stuff, but great none-the-less. Have been enjoying his later Blue Note, Steeple Chase & sideman stuff for years but never checked out his earlier stuff. The Kinks, Picture Book. Had only listened to 1 disc best of until I took this leap. Discs 1-3 are fantastic, #4 merely great & #5 good. #6 is marginal. Little Walter, Complete Chass Masters. For fans of post war electric Chicago blues, this is a must. Would like to see Jimmy Rogers' dates as a leader get similar treatment!
  4. I think his rhythms are kind of basic, "rock' like. His fills are ALL the same rapid rolls. He does a have small sound. And little variation. Liked Mars Williams better than Rempis. Liked Tim Mulvenna better than Daisy, but frankly not a big fan of his either. Vandermark seems to like a more basic "rock" beat for V5. LOVE Jeb Bishop & was sorry to see him leave V5. Of drummers from the Chicago/Vandermark scene, love Hamid Drake, Paal Nilssen-Love.
  5. Just received mine from an Amazon seller. Paid $48 including shipping.

    CD-Rs

My Rotel 1055 won't recognize TDKs or Memorex CDRs. Seems to accept everything else I try, including T-Ys. My other CD players will accept the TDKs and Memorex CDRs. The TDKs were on sale for $15 per hundred & I bough 4 spindles. Oh well . . .
  7. Bought the Blues World of Little Walter on CD. Somebody went nuts with Cedar. Allen is right. Just purchased on lp on Gemm website.
  8. Art Peper's peak was his stand at the Maiden Voyage in 1981. There's about 3 discs worth on the Complete Galaxy Recordings. Of course Winter Moon is the best jazz strings album ever.
  9. I've got a copy & I bet I haven't listened to it in a decade.
  10. You didn't get the Warne Marsh - Ne Plus Ultra?! Only because I already own it!
  11. I went a bit nuts on this one. At $6.49 per, I'd thought I could take a flier on some. Blue Note

It has to happen eventually. I've been buying Blue Note CD re-issues for 10-15 years now (when did the connoisseurs first come out???). Certainly they've been re-cycling for years now. Connoisseurs are OOP so now we see RVGs. Doesn't seem like there's anything left. Of course Tyrone Washington's Natural Essence hasn't been re-issued in the US. Anything else in the Blue Note Vaults would re-issuing?
  14. For folks in the good old U.S. of A., the Mangelsdorf MPS reissues are now in stock at www.dustygroove.com

    Delmark

    Strongly Agree!!!
  16. In situations such as this I'm liable to convince myself not to buy, hold out for months, and then succumb on impulse. But this set is so over the top that Paddy Power PLC is already paying-off all bettors who wagered that I would hang tough.
  17. This set is, of course, a blatant exploitation of music obsessives like us (me). It is also a test of our mental health. DO NOT BUY THIS SET!!!!! Resist that little voice in your head.
  18. Would you mind posting a copy of the tax return? I'd love to see it but the cost of the box set just might be the the straw the breaks the back of my marriage. Please exclude the pics of Miles, unless he's in the act with Cecilie Tyson. On 2nd thought the wife probably wouldn't approve of the pics either. Ah well.
  19. Surely we can all agree that Freddie Hubbard's "The Night of the Cookers" (both volumes) stinks.
