  2. Hearing from Brad Linde, a close collaborator of Redd's in recent years, that the pianist and composer passed this morning. Sad news -- a giant.
  3. yeah. Controversy helps make the name, I guess.
  4. I don't know why Daniel Spicer, who seems like a decent chap, even took this bit of click bait garbage on. Really makes me want to revise my opinion of him as well.
  5. yeah that Friesen interview is great, thanks!
  6. hell yes, great great film! last flick I caught was Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker with early appearances from Julia Duffy and Bill Paxton, and convincing work by Susan Tyrrell and Bo Svenson. Weird one!
  7. I love Aebi but it took me many years to feel that way.
  8. I'll have to listen to Flakes again. I didn't hate it but it didn't blow me away either (which is probably why it's been sitting in the racks untouched for quite a while).
  9. one of my favorite movies ever, btw. just got my first shot today in Brooklyn. Second is scheduled for 4/9. Feel fine, just a bit of tingle in my left hand and a sore spot from the jab. Looking forward.
  10. Celluloid was run by Jean Georgakarakos of BYG fame. I assume the Hive Mind is from a digital source; my copy is now buried in pre-move boxes.
  11. I had fun playing tracks from Ask the Ages on DJ gigs when I was able to do that before COVID. In that instance, vinyl was certainly a plus.
  12. mine has been shipped to New York, will probably be waiting for me at the new pad when I go up there this weekend. preordered the Taylor, Russell v.2 and of course the Rendell/Carr, looking forward to those as well!
  13. ah gotcha. reddit is not really the place I would go for record talk; I get the feeling that a lot of people in those threads are new to the format and often don't have the right equipment. Just a hunch, however.
  14. Mine sounds great. I have had no issues with the Hive Mind pressing. The VMP reissue is different -- original cover art, red vinyl, 33 1/3 rpm rather than 2x 45.
  15. I wouldn't call those guys official. I did get confirmation this morning from one of his regular collaborators, however. He passed on Sunday night.
  16. still haven't seen official confirmation.
  17. who's towing the free improv line out in Kazakhstan?
  18. yeah, I know, it's great though!
  19. yes, the post-Roy Nu Band. That was awesome. I came down with the flu the next day, really awful and one of the worst bouts of it I ever had -- glad I made it through the night!
  20. Shit, that's sad news. Great player! His wife, the clarinetist Rozanne Levine, passed some years ago. She was a hell of a musician too.
  21. Gotcha; creditors are believable.
  22. did the masters go to the artists who then sold or licensed them to certain labels?
  23. yeah, me too. Been curious about it.
