  1. I can't remember -- generally if I have something on LP I don't bother with a digital version.
  2. I have this set on LP and enjoy it, though not one I dig out a ton. The photo of Monk is cool and I get why it was used... at this point the film probably has less selling power than the soundtrack's contents.
  3. yeah, I have several Rempis releases and like the ones I have. Braxton, Lacy, Taylor, Coltrane, Waldron, Shepp, Brötzmann are all far better represented in the shelves, some displaying more finely-tuned moments than others but it seems important to have a bunch to choose from. Hindsight is 20/20 and had I been accumulating these albums when they were first released it's possible I might've felt differently. Brötzmann is the exception there I guess, as apart from the 70s/80s LPs most are later releases and were purchased as new, fresh albums.
  4. yeah Kuzu is pretty rad. I agree about the oversaturation feelingsbut I understand the need to document one's work and try to get a little coin if possible. When some of these people are eventually gone it'll be quite a legacy to explore.
  5. FWIW I've been using Ultimate Outer 2.5 and 5.0 sleeves from Sleeve City for several years and have had no off gassing issues or anything like that.
  6. yeah, that version gets under my skin a bit.
  7. Arthur Edgehill is still alive? I know he was living in a retirement community down in Deltona, FL. Glad to hear he's still with us. FWIW Tox Drohar is back to performing under his prior name, Dick Scott. He lives in Switzerland.
  8. yeah, one copy left supposedly at oldies.
  9. It's cool and the sound is decent. I also have the 1970s LP version. Need to pick up the '76-'77 set. Is Bear Family shipping to the US reasonable?
  10. Yes, NoBusiness in Lithuania for a pristine original copy of Howard Riley's Discussions LP.
  11. Visit him in Nickelsdorf and he'll play them for ya.
  12. It's Mats Gustafsson, and yes, that's the collector I'm thinking of.
  13. a certain European saxophonist and mega-collector also has copies.
  14. totally. there's no reason this material shouldn't be out already in one or two spots.
  15. awesome LP, dusted it off quite recently too.
  16. Sad to report that the bassist Hakim Jami died on December 19 here in Kingston, NY. He was around 80 years old (I don't have a birthday handy, if anyone does that would be a help). He had a stroke a while back and was struggling, though apparently still playing privately. He was a major part of the lofts in NYC during the 1970s, and recorded with among others Archie Shepp, Ted Daniel, Don Cherry, Ken McIntyre, Roland Alexander, Sun Ra, and Hilton Ruiz. RIP.
  17. Yeah, I'll have to listen closer to the Prestige but the Cleopatra date isn't far off and that has been confirmed to be Maneri. I could ask Mat next time I see him.
  18. Awesome, would love to check this out. I believe the saxophonist could be Joe Maneri.
  19. Yeah, it's interesting that it even came out on Blue Note at all. I love the CBBB and am glad it exists, though.
  20. Same. Love the real thing too and am lucky to live mere blocks from the CSX River Line in Kingston.
  21. yeah, I have stuff on either side of this that I like much better too.
  22. you're right about that. It's a good record and I actually don't mind the cover, but yes, sloppy assemblage there.
  23. ha, no disapproval of the "certain set," just never was my cuppa.
  24. I used to have a Prestige blue label of this album, many years ago. I wasn't that into it and purged it without a second thought. Now, Eastern Sounds is one of the most desirable jazz albums among a certain set of collectors. I haven't listened to it in decades but part of me would not mind having that old copy just to cash in!
