  1. The Nessa LP is excellent. Kinda neat coincidence, Ted Brown returned to music some years ago after working for many years as a computer engineer (starting in the late 60s IIRC).
  2. was supposed to be Alan Silva on bass but there was some sort of travel screwup (iirc) and he couldn't make the date.
  3. Thanks! We did take a lot of care in mastering these from original reel tapes, but I think the initial recordings themselves were very well done. I can say that the Ertunç record is great as well.
  4. I agree with this completely. He was a true giant. Saw him only once, hung out with him after and it was a kick. Also really enjoyed interviewing him for the NYC Jazz Record -- a gracious, hilarious, and fun guy who would talk your ear off.
  5. ha, I wouldn't mind tele-transporting myself somewhere else a lot of the time!
  6. I'd like to mention here that I'll be spinning the albums in full at 131 Grand Street in Brooklyn on Wednesday, December 13 from 8:30 PM onward. Listening party vibe; the event is free but there will be a cash bar and a few LP copies (I think) there for purchase via Academy Records.
  7. Motohiko Hino -- Toko Flash -- (Trio, JP)
  8. organissimo has a few.
  9. Chris Spedding -- Songs Without Words -- (EMI Odeon, JP) fantastic LP with Paul Rutherford, John Marshall et al.
  10. Nakamura recorded a number of his own albums, especially of interest are one on Nadja and one privately released. He worked quite a bit with Ted Daniel during the late 70s/early 80s.
  11. indeed, he's wonderful throughout.
  12. Isao Suzuki -- Orang-utan -- (TBM, Japan)
  13. Wow, what a life. RIP.
  14. Doug Hammond -- Folks -- (Idibib, US)
  15. Thanks!! For NY area folks, Academy Records in Brooklyn has copies of the LP and the 12th St./East Village location should have it soon as well.
  16. Oh wow. Tina was something else. She's missed.
  17. Dusty is out of stock but more are on the way. Forced Exposure also sells it and has in stock (both for distro and direct sales).
  18. East New York Ensemble De Music -- At The Helm -- (Folkways, US orig)
  19. Chikuzan Takahashi: Tsugaru Shamisen, the Definitive Version (Crown, JP)
  20. yeah, that is a beautiful record. I'd also give Dixon's "Intents & Purposes" a listen, recorded two weeks later.
  21. Thanks for buying, folks. Yeah, that live version of "The Prayer" and "Rush Hour" from the World's Experience Orchestra is awesome. Hopefully more can be done with John Jamyll Jones' tape archive, which is apparently quite deep. I interviewed him at length not too long ago in the hopes that a more expansive project around his unreleased works could happen. Will keep you all posted. Still haven't checked out that Lightmen stuff but at some point it'll happen.
  22. By all accounts a wonderful and fascinating person. RIP.
  23. Wow. RIP. Great story, Ted, and glad you quit.
