  1. Great one. Now, Phill Musra -- The Creator Spaces -- (Intex, US)
  2. Hmm. The In Situ CD from the early 90s had an alternate take or two as well.
  3. whole LP is on YouTube if you want to give it a listen. It's superb. I'd like to know if the release will still include previously unissued material, as I need to hear that stuff!
  4. Ed Askew -- s/t -- (ESP, US) one of my favorite ESPs.
  5. the head injury aspect I did not know before. Jeez. "the late Lee Morgan" story sounds familiar.
  6. same. I had no idea how strung out and near-death Lee Morgan was before he met Helen.
  7. I don't think I would listen to them on record now, but they're still good.
  8. Saw them semi-recently in New York with an improvising ensemble joining them onstage for two sets -- Roswell Rudd, Mary Halvorson, Taylor Ho Bynum, Vincent Chancey, Daniel Carter, etc. -- and it was superb. Still hard to imagine buying one of their records again but watching them disassemble their own songs, sometimes unsuccessfully, gave me a clearer idea of what they are capable of. yeah, the early records are pretty different -- basically sound like The Clean, or any page out of the Dunedin scene.
  9. Erica Pomerance -- You Used To Think -- (ESP, orig US) quite fond of this one
  10. ^^^ still need to grab that LP one of these days...
  11. Bummer. She was/is something.
  12. Thanks. Yeah, probably correct. Great and very rare records self-produced by former students of the AACM, later to move to Boston and then LA, but not common knowledge even among the obscure free music nutter/collector/scholar crowd.
  13. Solar Plexus -- s/t -- (Evidence Music International, US orig)
  14. Michael Cosmic -- Peace in the World -- (Cosmic Records, US private pressing)
  15. According to the Swedish saxophonist Gilbert Holmström, it's the same guy. However what is not clear is whether Trentham is still alive as the reference I found is a few years old. Trentham is from Missouri originally, relocated to Indiana and studied with David Baker before moving to Europe in the mid-60s. He and Don Cherry had a small group active at that time, basically a follow-up to the quartet DC had with Jimmy Cheatham. This is also a fun look, for those Bob Carducci fans out there: http://archives.nd.edu/ndcjf/dcjf1964.pdf
  16. Speaking of Lacy, although it's not his record, I would love to see a well-done reissue of Gaslini's Nuovi Sentimenti. I know it was on CD as part of a set via CAM jazz but it's a significant stand-alone document. Also the original cover art is very cool.
  17. sounds like a nice life to me. Certainly enjoy his playing from what little is out there. That Movement Incorporated CD is awesome but maybe a little wild and woolly, even for the Don Cherry freaks...
  18. Yipes! Numbers 1 & 2 is one of the first places I heard this music, on LP. Great to have it on CD now as well. And I'll buy a shirt. XL.

  20. oh shit. That's great news. I have original pressings of Sortie & Disposability, and love those albums.
  21. Saw a cover image reference to some archival recordings of Steve Lacy from 65-72, called "Free for a Minute." No idea what label or what sessions these might be. Anyone here have a clue?
