I'm hearing from a number of reputable (albeit non-familial) sources that the producer Giorgio Gomelsky (John McLaughlin, SME, Gong, Blossom Toes, Vangelis, etc.) has passed away. I hope it's not true but if so, quite a significant loss.
Fund artists and small labels to do whatever they want. Donate a ton of money to the IJS and other jazz collecting archives. Give the Jazz Foundation of America money. Of course I haven't bought a ticket because the concept of playing the lottery bothers me.
Nice set of tunes there - I have a Fresh Sound reissue of the Marable that was probably about $5 or $6. My copy of the McLean is a very, very thin matte sleeve with a flipback and I always assumed that was first, but who knows. Heavy stuff regardless.
Read recently that the entire MPS catalog is being made available digitally, with the next phase being high-quality LP reissues of select titles.
Much love for the label but I've felt that recent CD reissue programs have barely scratched the surface of an incredibly deep and varied catalog.
I never used Time Machine on my old 2005 iMac.
Properly pointed now, though I'm still not seeing the library. I'll figure it out when I have more time.
Yeah, I just picked up the new iMac and bought AppleCare.
Will go back through and see if I can link up my EHD music to iTunes; I've already noticed that there is no "Music" folder on the computer by default.
My old computer was running a very old OS X version btw.
Yeah the Rothko exhibition in Houston is excellent.
Stella retro at the Whitney did not disappoint - went yesterday, and was more impressed by the arc of his post-70s work than I expected to be, given that most of my interest has been in his stripe, irregular polygon and protractor paintings. The Motley show was also excellent.
Alberto Burri at the Guggenheim was also fantastic, despite the better efforts of the space and clientele to get in the way of some truly fascinating art.
