  1. Gonna buy a new Mac this weekend and (not) looking forward to the migration. All of my shit is on an EHD. Shawn has been very helpful with my problems before and I'm glad to see him weighing in here. He knows his stuff! I'll try to follow the directions in this thread, which is better than anything on Apple support.
  2. He claims around 120, which I'd believe. chewy - yeah, the West Coast stuff is strong though - and I dig Solemn Meditation. I don't think Carla is all that out, but her music is very interesting. Annette is more out, and differently interesting. Bley was a motherfucker of an artist and as weird as things got, there was always a reference to a theme or an idea, and often an underpinning of a bluesy Latinate groove.
  3. Paul Bley - Blood - (Fontana, JP) I haven't had much time to settle into Bley's music since hearing of his departure, though he and his work have been with for me for many ear-tuned years. Christ what an artist...
  4. Well, they say half of life is just showing up!
  5. the things I've heard have all been very good.
  6. I saw Bley once with Marc Johnson and Lee Konitz. It wasn't the concert I was hoping for but it was the concert I got to see.
  7. that site is an aggregator and not itself worth trusting. In other words, if you put in "Stereojack death hoax" it would come up with "Stereojack" in the place of "Paul Bley." DAMN. Sad news.
  8. First I've heard of this, but he's not a young man and has been battling a variety of ailments in recent years. did a quick Twitter search and came up with a few mentions of his possible departure, but all linked to Facebook posts that have been taken down.
  9. Yeah, I would assume this is related to digital media copyright issues. Independent stations are getting screwed by this sort of approach and it was problematic for the Austin community station I volunteered with.
  10. Ah, yeah I have a UK Polydor pressing from I assume the early 70s.
  11. What Stanley Cowell record is that?
  12. Roswell Rudd - The Definitive Roswell Rudd - (Horo, IT) recent holiday buy, and a wonderful little album.
  13. Charles Kynard - Afro-Disiac - (Prestige, blue label)
  14. Brigitte Fontaine & Areski - L'Incindie - (BYG Japan)
  15. Baden-Baden '75 is good. Jahrmarkt appeared on one side of the Po Torch LP Jahrmarkt/Local Fair.
  16. Grace Slick & The Great Society - How It Was - (Columbia 2-eye Stereo)
  17. The quartet with Wooley, Niggenkemper and Corsano is off the hook! Also, Icepick is excellent - Wooley, Corsano and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten on bass. Could add many historical recordings but it seems like the contemporary stuff gets short shrift. There's a wonderful new Portuguese label called Cipsela that has done some stuff with Carlos Zíngaro, Daniel Levin, Burton Greene and others, all in the 'chamber improv' realm.
  18. Roy Harper - Folkjokeopus - (Liberty/Sunset, UK)
  19. The Fugs - s/t (a.k.a. Fugs II) - (ESP, 5th Ave. pressing)
  20. Cool - will be dropping the needle on T.S. 1989 later this evening...
  21. To clarify, I've had Pathé and Nessa pressings as well, somewhat 'used' but not 'abused.' If I had cracked a sealed Nessa it probably would've been a different story! This was a new stock 70s Odeon copy and it sounds stunning. My copy of Stances is an early Nessa and it sounds great.
  22. Art Ensemble (of Chicago) - People in Sorrow - (Odeon, JP) have had multiple copies of this over about 20 years and this is by far the quietest pressing.
  23. I saw that Mars posted this on Instagram today. I wish I could attend.
