  1. $2000 is an absurd amount of money to spend on a record released on Union.
  2. I would be okay with a repress of Independence. It comes up every now and then.
  3. Oh yeah - I think Cope was into that Soundbreakers record.
  4. ftr, I don't have any of the AP Prestige titles - am only recommending sessions I like that I have elsewhere.
  5. I've had a hard time liking this title. I only know it from the Vocalion CD. The sound seems to my ears to be impenetrable , very dense without enough separation between the instruments to make for easy listening. I've not spun it since changing my DAC so who knows it might yield more. I hope the LP is easier on the ear. Interesting. I had the CD first and it didn't make too much of an impression. The LP however does - especially the septet on side 2 which I enjoy very much indeed. I'd not noticed a contrast in the sound but I've stopped listening to the CD so wouldn't really. Have this on a Japanese CD and it sounds really nice. Excellent session.
  6. Red Garland - All Mornin' Long; Phil Woods/Don Byrd - Young Bloods; Phil Woods - Woodlore; Rollins Plays for Bird; George Wallington - Jazz for the Carriage Trade I need to spend more time with a couple of these sessions, like Elmo Hope's Informal Jazz and both of the Mobleys.
  7. Overseas is the shizznit. I have a copy on Japanese Metronome - it came out originally as three separate Swedish Metronome EPs. One of the finest piano trio sets, for sure.
  8. (S)he's transgender or has gender displacement issues. That's heavy stuff, and it's too bad that such a personal situation has become very, very public. As for the car accident, (s)he's culpable in some way, but as one catalyst in a multi-car situation. Sounds like Jenner was being chased by paparazzi and shit got out of control real fast.
  9. Shouldn't be surprised about the Japanese So In Love - thought about that after posting. I assume that's a CBS? I have two NY monos in nice shape, Black Fire and Point of Departure; the rest are Liberty pressings (and a King of Dance With Death).
  10. That's Hill's first LP. Trio with Malachi Favors and James Slaughter; sadly, the 70s reissue had strings overdubbed and really crappy sound, so the original or the Fresh Sounds reissue are the only ways to fly.
  11. well if he's going backwards, it would be So In Love on Warwick.
  12. nice to see Shepp nominated, though I haven't heard the new record. Most of this appears to be pabulum - no surprise there.
  13. depends on the people you`re talking to ..... Hah, true!
  14. I really like this record.
  15. I bet homefromtheforest would know; the books I'm aware of are entirely in Japanese, exhaustive though they are.
  16. Have had this a couple of times over the years - good record. Of course the initial purchase impulse was that we're fellow Jayhawkers...
  17. It's the influence of that "Bonandrini sound" - c'mon, everyone knows that!
  18. Open Space is a nice one indeed. Was out on MPS back in the day, not sure if it's on disc or not.
  19. yeah that NDR band stuff that Cuneiform released is excellent. the DVD with studio footage is amazing. People don't talk much about Erich Kleinschuster, do they?
  20. I guess I go for The Trio and before, so including the Deram LPs, the music with John Warren's big band, and of course sideman turns with Skidmore, Westbrook et al. That Jazz in Britain '68-'69 LP is also really nice and readily available on disc.
  21. oh - ha - thought you meant you had 2 copies of the LP.
  22. If you don't need a downstairs copy too, let me know!
  23. not on this salary.
  24. Depends on whether it is a special occasion meal - I'd say w/ drinks around $100 for two - or a 'night out' sans drinks, in which I would not spend more than $20 on my part of the food portion.
