  1. Ooh - yeah, I gotta make a trek to Vancouver to hang with you guys.
  2. Frank Lowe - Out Loud - (Triple Point) still sounds pretty damn out there... even considering the participants!
  3. I never made it all the way through my big Leo buy from a few years ago!
  4. Sad Life is listed as "Sold Out" on the Leo site. Check out this link: http://www.leorecords.com/?m=catalogue&price=Z I was surprised to find some of these "sold out." Or put another way, surprised how many titles were sold out. I got my Sad Life some years ago; can't recall where I got my copy. It's been sold out for years. Not easy to find although I doubt it would be expensive on the secondhand market. Live, on Zero In, is also pretty sick.
  5. I really want Sad Life, with Ivo Perelman, William Parker and Rashied Ali. Alas, it seems like the warehouse hasn't yielded a box of these in a while!
  6. After seeing an older and not-very-in-depth review of a Noah Howard CD with the pianist's name misspelled ("Kakashi" instead of Takashi Kako - not that hard to look up), my suspicions about AAJ's continued pointlessness were confirmed. What a waste of internet space... though I'm glad it's a gateway for people to come over here where the water's a bit warmer.
  7. Sad news, since every one of his records is great, but if he'd rather do other things with his remaining years, who are we to argue? Official news here.
  8. Quebec for me in the jazz section; Quicksilver Messenger Service and Question Mark (Nigerian psych band) in the rock section.
  9. Yeah, that blindfold was so tight we were a'stumblin'.
  10. I can't stress enough how screwed up our garage is and how disinterested I became in the playing of music for a good while. There's probably a correlation there? If you're in no hurry, I will see what I can do. If you are in a hurry, hey, money will most assuredly not be an object: http://www.amazon.com/Quartet-Welcome-Party-Pete-Gallio/dp/B0006M1YMA Add me to the list of folks who would grip.
  11. I was only mentioning it in light of the criticism that they are profiting greatly from this or any other release, which they aren't.
  12. Cool! Glad you snagged a copy...it's definitely a far superior issue. Very affordable too. I think I'll liberate my America pressing (even if it creates a numerical gap in the America section).
  13. Yeah, bummed me out! Haha
  14. Noah Howard - Space Dimension - (Columbia, JP) Hat tip to Homefromtheforest on this one - the sound blows away the shitty French pressing (Americas are usually okay; that one is pretty bad)
  15. I had a somewhat ratty LP of this that I ended up trading. Killer record - will have to pick up the CD until I can find a mint copy of the vinyl at less than $300...
  16. Haha I cannot BELIEVE I didn't recognize that Mengelberg track. I own the record and have certainly spun it a fair amount. Guess it is all about context! The Hip Walk has been something I've wanted to pick up for a while. Strong track - I'll continue to keep an eye out.
  17. I was told that - and this was news to me - all proceeds from Hot Cup releases go to various charities. Interesting, if true.
  18. Yeah, I saw him around that time as well and the same was true. Sweet, sweet man.
  19. Daley still sounds wonderful. I've enjoyed him with Ted Daniel's International Brass and Membrane Corps. Among the younger players, Ben Stapp is a hell of a musician (and a fine composer too).
  20. Hm. "Brilliant Corners" is a favorite, as is Mingus' "Moanin'."
  21. Yeah, I'm sure. To many a sacred cow; to others, hamburger!
  22. yeah, I like the duo side of that record. The other side I cannot hang with.
  23. Hung out with Kevin last night. He's pretty shocked by all the reactions the record is getting. To him it was a fun, subversive project - now, on to the next thing. In his mind in no way is it an attempt to replace or be on an even footing with the original.
