  1. Poet, literary figure and activist Hettie Jones, who was also Amiri Baraka's first wife, has died at 90: https://thevillagesun.com/hettie-jones-poet-writer-social-justice-activist-dies-at-90 AFAIK she lived at 27 Cooper Square right up until her hospitalization and death. Lotta history.
  2. Same here, interesting character. RIP.
  3. Definite +1 on the Brötzmann Tentet. I like Be Music, Night a lot especially.
  4. nutty re: Momentum Space. I should relisten to the CD, as it has been a very long time and that was never a go-to album for me.
  5. I'll admit I'm really only familiar with somewhat vintage Wheeler big band material.
  6. they're rad. They also did a CD with Bill Dixon that I like quite a bit.
  7. would love to have seen that band live, though Art Deco was never a favorite Cherry album.
  8. Later Lancaster is good. Those CIMP CDs are swell, and My Pure Joy -- which, thanks to Felser's help, I did the liners for on the LP reissue -- is a fascinating mixed bag. FWIW I've always liked Exactement quite a bit. It is pretty spare but very personal. Ditto Personal Testimony, which was issued on CD with extra tracks. I've never had the Bellows LP but would be interested to sit down with it, even if it's a bit uneven.
  9. Little Huey still convenes once in a while. Of course the recordings from the 1990s/early 00s are tremendous.
  10. Me too. IIRC it was a duo session.
  11. Yeah, it's the same trio in Hudson and at the Lace Mill. The venue made a mistake -- I confirmed with both Bisio and Shipp. Anyway, I'll see some of y'all at the Lace Mill!
  12. Mike Hames' print discography apparently listed a ton of sessions. I've not actually laid hands on a copy but would love to see one.
  13. Cool! Someone has them still, for sure.
  14. I am quite sure Matt Shipp is not playing on Aug 24th. I asked him and he said he is not...
  15. Bill Dixon, 17 Musicians In Search of a Sound: Darfur is also quite something. Have quite a bit of LJCO but haven't kept up with more recent large ensemble works.
  16. there's also a session with Eddy Louiss for Palm that Byard told me about. I don't know if tapes survived.
  17. they used to be much stricter, and have become quite lax with their used LPs. Avoid.
  18. yep. Glad I got to see the LMO once before Bley passed too.
  19. wow. Nessa t-shirts still available? Or was that homemade? Oh, I see now. Sorry I missed them when they were around.
  20. Very hard to choose, but I loved his playing on two tracks of Alan Shorter's Orgasm LP. Interviewed Haden fairly early on in my jazz writing career and he was incredibly kind and fun to speak with, as well as politically engaged (naturally). I would imagine the LMO being a voice for the voiceless in places like Palestine/Israel, the Congo, and other areas right now, which is desperately needed.
  21. oh shit, RIP to one of the site's great writers. That's terrible news.
  22. ah, yeah, the declawing is gnarly. So sorry that happened to him. I am so glad you are trying to find your buddy a workable situation.
  23. Update: four proper LPs and the music from one 7" and a Gilson Anthology track spread across 7 records, so they've obviously maximized sides in odd ways. No newly unearthed music. The booklet is probably pretty cool, given Pierre's way with words and a heap of rare photos. I might get it just because my Mother Africa pressing is kinda noisy and I want the book, but...
  24. oh yeah, Feliway definitely has worked for our cat in trying times. All advice here I'm seeing is good. Even if the cat goes outside the box, he's still a family member and accidents are a part of life -- cats get very ashamed and I always tell my Noodles that it's okay, we just clean it up and try to find out what's happening.
