all true, and also the rights to do such a set would be a quagmire. Other than the two Pathé/Nessa titles, everything is owned by Charly/BYG, Pierre Berjot (Musidisc - America, Galloway, Carson), and DA Music/Alan Bates (Freedom-Polydor).
have this album buried in my bandcamp, I haven't listened to it a whole lot but it's a good session.
too much stuff that I only have digitally gets lost in the, er, shuffle.
Cover is a bit worn for $200 IMO but it's not a terrible price. I have seen Liberty-era LPs with W63rd labels from time to time. More frequently NY USA labels, however, even on 1500/early 4000 series titles.
yeah, I prefer some of Beckett's earlier recordings to this one but on today's listen was enjoying it a lot.
#11 I like a lot, feels familiar but I can't quite get it.
#7 is Harry Beckett, recognize that sound anywhere.
Ray Russell on guitar, it sounds like.
"Glowing" from Joy Unlimited, right? Haven't dug this one out in ages.
Is it wrong to like track #3? I don't know who it is, could be a lot of contemporary things, but I like it.
recognize #4 but cannot place it.
they cut that track too short IMO!
was Maxine Gregg (later Gordon) married to Jack at one point, or were they siblings? I could never parse that. She played cello with early editions of the Galaxie Dream Band before being with Woody Shaw and, later, Dexter, and then we know a bit of the history afterwards...
he's great. Saw an exhibition of his work at MassMOCA one year, and also saw him perform solo with Cooper-Moore opening (Whitney Breuer space, at least 10 years ago now).
yeah, I have encountered that on Bandcamp before and never trust it to be true. I don't believe I've ever gotten a physical product from a Bandcamp page within two weeks.
Artists can be slow; they may not actually have product in hand, or are on tour, etc.. only a few weeks late is par for the course in my book. It is too bad that they haven't responded, however.
whoa, that's gnarly.
I had it for the third time in August. It was like a bad head cold, lasted just over a week. Sorry to hear that others have had it worse. I keep up with the vaccinations so will presumably get jabbed sometime this fall...
yeah, Assist is excellent. I don't know why people on Discogs are charging $200+ when the going rate is like $75 max for a nice copy. Surely you'll find one.
oddly, those are among the CBBB-related LPs I am missing. Got kinda full of Clarke-Boland at one point, when I felt I'd bought/listened to enough. But I'd scoop the vinyl if I ran into it.
Saw them a bunch when I lived in Minneapolis for a spell, thought they were good at the time but I'll admit it's been... about 20 years.
Recall one gig where they were joined by François Corneloup -- this was the festival that Jean Rochard of Nato Records had -- and that was a very strong set indeed.
