  1. I thought P-Vine did the Mtume on CD a while ago, but I could be wrong! Wasn't AECO doing CDs of their productions at some point? I thought Kabalaba and the Malachi Favors were reissued, but my mind could be playing tricks on me.
  2. Oh, too bad. RIP.
  3. And IIRC, some of Gunter Kronberg's solos were edited down or out on the PJ issue.
  4. Huh. I've heard the 1991 reissue, which my dad has, and that always sounded fine to my ears. I've seen the mini-LP reissue, which is attractive, but since I already have the material on a decent vinyl issue, I've never bothered to investigate further.
  5. Ideal Bread = Marble Rye for me.
  6. Why that particular issue? I've got the old brown twofer, which has served me well.
  7. I have both Levitt RCAs and they're quite good - I need to pull those out again and remind myself, as it's been a while.
  8. Both volumes of Ideal Bread are killer.
  9. Oh cool, I'll have to check out this trio disc.
  10. Was it me doing a lackadaisical shuffle-dance to side B of the Autoclave 10" over lunch? Maybe it was. Maybe it was.

  11. Paul Motian/J-F Jenny Clarke/Charles Brackeen - Le Voyage - (ECM)
  12. Nice score! Bob Downes is great!
  13. Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers - (RCA-Victor orange d/g)
  14. I have no problem with Woods, really, though perhaps I'm easy... don't know Quill's work super well, so I'll have to check out these compilations.
  15. Well Lacy's probably on several hundred releases, so I'm barely scratching the surface as well!
  16. I wouldn't say he's been marginalized recording-wise - there are a bunch of discs with him leading or as the sole voice - but I don't think the jazz-guitar establishment has caught up to Dom Minasi yet. His two new digital releases - one solo, one a duo with Karl Berger - are absolutely gorgeous. Looks great.
  17. How is it/what's it like? The Discogs page makes it look interesting, but part of me wonders whether it would be as fiery as a modern European big band from a couple decades earlier...
  18. Gotta pick up Tapestry one of these days.
  19. Great news. I'm looking forward to picking this one up.
  20. This is also a really interesting record. Harde sounds like a bent, classical Jimmy Raney.
  21. Though not too well-known stateside, Dutch guitarist Wim Overgaauw cut some really nice dates in the '60s and '70s, esp. with Pim Jacobs and Rita Reys. Also, I second the mention of Sonny Greenwich.
  22. And Endless Jazz with Denis Charles and Triple Trip Touch on the Penck/Music Corporation label.
  23. Maybe the worst name for a label that I've ever heard.
  24. Also, JLH has a history in the music going back quite a few years.
