I'm curious to hear Cooper-Moore play the organ, though I don't doubt his conception is quite far from where a greazy modern-jazz organ player would take it. C-M is a pianist who also builds instruments of his own design, as well as playing flute. Check out his Cedar Box Recordings solo disc on Aum/50 Miles of Elbow Room if you get a chance. C-M was like a surrogate father to me while I lived in NY briefly. He is a kind man.

Nah, that's Circulus, which includes Vitous/Haynes stuff as well as chamber trio work w/ clarinet and cello (Braxton/Holland). Like that one a little better than Circling In.

Nice - I'd like to hear those Encore tracks. Mirrors is a sweet record; I have it on a UK Freedom LP. At Her Majesty's Pleasure is the first CBBB record I heard, too, and a fine one indeed.

I used to have the LPs (my 70s two-fer pressing was kind of noisy). I remember it being decent but, compared to the CBS and ECM sessions, not quite "there." But "Drone" is a very nice trio piece - that has been reissued somewhere, if I'm not mistaken.

I would think that the only one of the Dixons that would need remastering would be Thoughts. Cranked to 2 o'clock on my amp it sounds great, but it's recorded at what seems like a pretty low dynamic level considering what I know to be the dynamics of the music. If memory serves, Bill wasn't too happy with how it came out, but he liked to have his stereo at full volume anyway :-) Also, the liner notes to these releases should be made available somewhere, as they are certainly part of the package (not to mention the beautiful covers).

Cool record. The arrangements are quite massive and recall, to me (in parts) some of Bill Dixon's orchestral music, especially the combination of low brass and "woody" reeds. There are some amazing passages of brutal high-pitched trilling as well, and considering what one might "expect" from a Euro-American blowout, its textures are quite varied. If you're into the heavier realm of avant-garde improvised music, it's definitely worth some ear-time. Also a second on Rolf Kuhn. Fantastic and open-minded player, one who I'm glad is still with us.

Apparently his sudden passing was due to a brain aneurysm. So sad.
