  1. Get the League of Gentlemen stuff. Agitated new wave/post punk with the Fripp touch.
  2. Mine is almost the same as Tom's, except a "1B" follows the XSM 152412/3/4/5 stamper numbers. It is a two-eye pressing.
  3. Happy Birthday!!! Welcome to the party - haven't seen you around in a while!
  4. Also, I like the original Swedish title better, which translates to "Men who Hate Women." Much more apt considering what the movie is about.
  5. Really liked "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" a lot, though the rape scenes were horrific.
  6. Haven't heard that in YEARS. A friend had it and I remember liking it.
  7. Eating some Newman-O's and listening to: Han Bennink & Derek Bailey - s/t - (Instant Composers' Pool)
  8. Joachim Kuhn - This Way Out - (MPS) w/ Daniel Humair, Peter Warren, and Gerd Dudek. Easily one of Kuhn's best.
  9. Jeanne Lee - Don't Freeze Yourself to Death over There in those Mountains - (Penck) w/ Dennis Charles, C Sharpe, Frank Wollny, AR Penck
  10. I'm partial to Conquistador (duh) and the Bud and Braith titles. The Hills are good (have them on wax) as is the Jackie Mac, but I haven't spun them in quite a while.
  11. I like this session. Have the Japanese Fontana re-press from the '70s. The Dutch Fontana preceded the Polydor, fwiw.
  12. If you are on facebook, please become a "fan" or post thoughts on Bill Dixon's facebook page.
  13. Great piece by Taylor Ho Bynum here. I also put something up on Ni Kantu. It was hard to write and I can only imagine how hard it was to put something together having played/studied with him.
  14. Thanks, will have this on all night.
  15. Was that the concert w/ Dixon, Brooks, J.R. Mitchell & G. Sojkowski? That music scared the shit out of me when I heard it.
  16. Yes, but it was not public & a lot of us thought he was doing much better.
  17. I talked with his wife this morning and the news is true. I am heartbroken. RIP, Bill - you were a friend and mentor to so many, myself included.
  18. Guess I'm easy to please...
  19. Blumenthal isn't a favorite by any stretch, but at the time I was getting into jazz his words (usually in liner notes) were very helpful.
  20. I need to pick up that blues box - still wading through Devilin' Tune after a couple of years!
  21. Dunno... a fair amount of those early Enja LPs had lead sheets printed on the back, which is/was cool.
  22. Indeed. I have very fond memories of watching him play (or watching him watch while seated at the bar) at the old Velvet Lounge. What a nice and unassuming gentleman. Hope that once he pulls through he's able to continue playing.
  23. Yeah, I actually think he got more distinctive in the post-Trane years, especially in the 1970s. There were certainly players trying to do what he did and not doing it quite as well (e.g., Lonnie Liston Smith), and for me, hearing him nail that approach to chord voicings and rhythm - however you want to put it - is something really special. Granted, more recent recordings haven't really gassed me that much, but the BN and Milestone years are full of some top-notch material.
