  1. Problem with that is who's got the tapes/rights - Universal or Charly (not that the latter cares/cared about "rights"). I have been told that the America edition, as with Coursil's Black Suite, is the original but it's hard to confirm. Would've been nice to put the Wright and Howard on one disc as well as make a disc out of Coral Rock and the "Uhuru" track from Pitchin' Can. But I suppose all this stuff is floating around the share blogs anyway and there are heavier/more interesting things in this music to worry about than BYG and America reissues (there, I said it).
  2. That's been a disc that I have been curious about. Thanks for the confirmation.
  3. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Prepare Thyself to Deal with a Miracle - (Atlantic)
  4. Wow. No, but I want to hear what you're talking about.
  5. That series is good and cheap. I have most of the reissued titles in other formats (i.e., Polydor UK, Fontana, Spiegeli, Black Lion, etc.) but you could get in the door cheap with Arista-Freedom. I think Cadence used to have them for $1.99 or $1.49 in their catalog back in the late 80s, well before I knew there was jazz other than Miles and Coltrane.
  6. Nah, haven't heard anything from Ben on it lately.
  7. Television - Marquee Moon - (Elektra butterfly label OG) Now: Death - For the Whole World to See - (Drag City)
  8. Julius Hemphill - Flat Out Jump Suite - (Black Saint)
  9. That volume is particularly good. Sunny's side is very nice as well. Saga sounds fantastic, yes...
  10. I saw Revis and Waits with Brotzmann not too long ago; it was solid though Revis was trying some William Parker double-bowing shit that didn't work too well. Kinda dropped the ball on that one, IMO. But I can imagine this set you saw being decent. V'mark's backbeat scene gets a little overdone, too, though I generally appreciate his writing when it's not "funky."
  11. Mike Bisio - In Seattle - (Silkheart) Real fine find, new for $3.
  12. Zulu Rock is supposed to be pretty incredible but I've yet to hear it. It is on CD, as most of her output. Nassau is an avant-garde post-no wave club jam; I'm therefore surprised she worked with Chet.
  13. Trane. Guess he was 40, but...
  14. Carter-Bradford Quartet - Flight for Four - (Flying Dutchman, white label promo copy)
  15. My eyes glossed over... yeah, that way I don't have to give the Andorrans any $$.
  16. I'd like to hear this. Besides, how many recordings of Bob Fuhlrodt (or Fuhlrod, as I've seen it) are there?
  17. The Nessa reissue of Procession of the Great Ancestry is excellent also. When Chuck gets Spirit Catcher reissued this fall, pick that one up too. Then you might also want the Kabell recordings and some of the Golden Quartet.
  18. Yeah, I have a hard time imagining Jimmy Cobb getting up and going on Facebook scrabble every morning...
  19. Yeah, Triptykon is a cool record. He also cut some heavy sides with Juhani Aaltonen for Blue Master and a solo LP that are all very scarce and deserving of reissue. Nan Madol on Japo is real nice, as is another weird one-off Norwegian psychedelic fusion date called "Ode to Marilyn." Excellent player and sorely overlooked, but the reissue market being what it is... probably not surprising.
  20. At Her Majesty's is a hot one! Also, the Griffin "Lady Heavy Bottom's Waltz" is fantastic. Admittedly hoping for some nice Japanese facsimiles to make their way to the surface, because though the Rearwards are a good way to hear some of this music, I've been less impressed with the printing quality on the sleeves and have had one or two warped vinyls.
  21. From the same period, Peace Concert on Atavistic is real nice.
  22. Yeah, I think it's in their "coming soon" queue.
  23. I'll let you know if I can get a copy! Small group with Botchinsky and other Danish folks, recorded for Debut.
  24. Well, Reader doesn't always work - according to my feed, "Fucked in Park Slope" hasn't had any new stories in a year but I know there are several a day.
  25. Apparently forthcoming are a repress of the SAWANO Shihab Oktav LP as well as Sahib's Jazz Party.
