  1. David S. Ware - From Silence to Music - (Palm) Especially dig the unaccompanied solos on side two.
  2. My copy of Duke Pearson's Wahoo has the back cover label affixed upside down. Not uncommon; I've had one like that too.
  3. Yup, the one I was looking at had 19 discs at $50. This was the same guy who had a Mercury box of Bach's cello suites (Starker) for $100. I should have nabbed that one as well - never gonna see a deal like that again!
  4. I almost bought one of those sets at a good price, until I saw it was missing one of the LPs!
  5. P-Vine are often pretty limited. I thought it'd be around for longer, though.
  6. Yeah, that's what I have too. I'd like to get the one with Charlie Mariano as well. But yes, Tyner's Blue Note run is pretty sweet. Glad to have all those.
  7. Oh yeah, I agree JS - music is pretty much what you got when the going gets rough - and I think it probably is for everybody on this board, myself included. Then again, maybe I wouldn't be as broke as I am if I took a breather on buying old Blue Notes and so forth...
  8. I'm not an audiophile, but I don't want crappy-sounding records either... admittedly, a hammered early BN pressing might still sound okay, but I'd much prefer a solid, crisp King issue or a frickin' CD and avoid the hassle of skips, crackle, etc. Should we be concerned, chewy?
  9. I'd take Brownie's advice as well. Most of these I have in King or Toshiba Japanese pressings (at least the 1500 series). The Van Gelder Liberty's of his 4000 series LPs all sound good, so I can vouch for those as well. The early Mobley BNs have been at the $1000+ mark for years with no sign of slowing.
  10. Oh, that's out now? Had heard rumors that something might happen.
  11. What a good listening day you had. And a good deal on the Dixon - I saw a mono go for nearly $100 recently. Too bad Judith Dunn wasn't credited for the liner notes, which are very informative. That LP just gets deeper with each listen - you are in for a treat.
  12. That "East Coast Cool" stuff with Allan Chase is real nice, too.
  13. I'd be interested to hear it in mono. Unbelievably great record.
  14. "Ain't no time to hate / Barely time to wait"
  15. Despite being over 30 years old, you OWE it to yourself to own this record. One of the best (semi-) underground rock records in existence.
  16. The 2009 Kwanzaa stamp design has been released. I'm not one for stamp collecting, but when I was at the PO the other day and saw a sign for the "Lloyd McNeill" design I got pumped - his Asha LPs are very rare and intriguing 1970s soul-jazz offerings. Great to see his name in the popular consciousness. Perhaps our DC board members have some insight; he is quite active, apparently, on the DC cultural scene today.
  17. Buschi Niebergall!
  18. Capitol Record Club.
  19. You were indeed correct. The mastering does suck. But so do the pressings. Anybody have this experience with some of the Toshiba/EMI pressings from the 1990s? I've got a couple that distort heavily in the bright spots.
  20. This is just a mess.
  21. That's a good one!
  22. Saw Blues Control the other night - I think they've come a long way since 2006/7, when I saw them last. The new album, on Siltbreeze, is excellent if you like a contemporary art-damaged-rock spin on Cluster/etc.
  23. Have fun! They BROUGHT IT in Austin.
  24. Though I'm not a huge fan of the record, admittedly the Italian issue of Brown Rice looks pretty cool.
