Yeah, it's a split release with Lithuanian label No Business, which has put out some interesting sessions in its short existence. The Trio X LP is particularly nice. I've got this one on order & will report back.

I haven't listened to the clip because I am at work. However, I do have about 20 of his recordings, and have seen him w/ Thurston and Corsano before as the Dream Action Unit - nice gig, very enjoyable skronk-fest. I don't think that "beauty" is a necessary requirement of music or sound. It may be a requirement for you to like it, Dan, but not necessarily for others. FWIW, I would rather listen to Flaherty in another context than with Thurston, though each is a strong player in their own right. Though on the extreme end of things, Bill Dixon does have a point when he suggests that the only person who can judge a work of art as successful is the one who made it. If Flaherty and Moore succeeded in doing what they set out to do, it's not "crap" though you may not enjoy it yourself.

Yeah, I had a battered Fantasy which I had been trying to upgrade for years! Still want that Debut, though... this one was cheap and will suffice.

It's funny that Flaherty doesn't get much press from the jazz (or even "free jazz") public. He got lumped in with the "New Weird America" crowd, like Sunburned Hand of the Man, Wooden Wand, etc., and that placed him on the outside of where his work really lies - with improvised music. Same thing happened with Arthur Doyle. Say what you will about either one's playing within the free/jazz tradition, but I find them both to be intriguing artists and will continue to follow their work.

There's a lot of nice recordings that came out of these. I have a few bootlegs from the broadcasts and they are really, really nice.

Sorry to hear about that. Most addicts aren't that rude... It does pop up on eBay a fair amount and for a reasonable price if the need is that serious. I'm glad to have it on CD as well as my original vinyl.

Indeed, a fine player and very daring - even if one didn't always like the surroundings he chose, one still had to respect his ideas and desire to challenge himself. Sad to see him go.

Damn. RIP, Tina. I knew she was having a tough time with her illness but hoped she'd be with us a bit longer. Jim is right - she got stuff done and Texas creative music is really going to feel the loss. Terrible news to receive upon returning from holiday.

Non-vocalists, well, they seem to end up being pianists for me (in this thread): Schweizer, Crispell, Takase, Carla Bley, and though I haven't followed Geri Allen too much, I do like what I've heard. Though I do have soft spots for flutist Becky Friend and saxophonist Barbara Thompson! Ingrid Laubrock is a pretty fine saxophonist, too. Cool trio on Intakt, Sleepthief.

Good point, Ken. I've considered Al Cohn Memorial Collection, but haven't put it in the will as of yet. Dunno what they'd want with buckets of European free-jazz LPs, but hey, if they want 'em...

The second list was a little more knowledgeable than the first, it seems. I like the self-titled Hatfields LP better than Rotter's Club, but YMMV. Not much Krautrock represented, either. No Yeti? For that matter, whither Catherine Ribeiro and Alpes?
