  1. yep, I have it -- same music as the Ogun but with very different, hotter mastering and IIRC some change in track order.
  2. Yeah, I am not sure where to put this behemoth! Too tall for even my oversize bookshelves. Beautiful book, and I like the quotes from contemporaneous reviews. I thought I had a pretty good handle on British jazz LPs (and the fine CD reissue programmes of 15 years ago), but quite a few of the titles in here are totally unfamiliar to me. And I also was surprised to see Jack repeating the internet error that Alan Shorter appears on "By Contact." He had nothing to do with that session. Surman plays cornet (in addition to reeds), and the record was originally supposed to come out on Turtle.
  3. Nice. I understand that Terry Martin had many Swaggie releases in his collection.
  4. Yes, it is a different track. I have the Habiliment LP for (partly) that reason. Surprised Lord got this wrong but the Japanese LP is extremely rare, so he may have just assumed without hearing.
  5. https://www.kyokokitamura.com/the-case-of-robert-bob-rusch/ I am thankful for Cadence and all the things that the label and magazine did, and he was the founder. He was also a very good writer and in later years he championed my writing. That felt like real validation, since I never knew or met him. He was also a very fucked up individual. It would not shock me at all if he was abused as a young person, but I do not know. I feel empathy towards those whose lives he wrecked. I think one can hold the truths of his accomplishments and his terrible actions at the same time.
  6. definitely recognize the name. Looks like he was a Bohannon regular.
  7. All praise due to Mr. Kart!
  8. yep. Fair assessment.
  9. Damn, that's too bad. He did so much for this music. Definitely complicated... but that legacy, whew!
  10. Denon, Baystate, Horo, Fluid, Victor, Soul Note is what I have for Max of that period. don't forget the two Bridgewater Brothers LPs... very nice Denon sessions in great sound.
  11. I suppose as these are benefiting musician charities it's hard to completely mock Al (especially given the fact that COVID UBI here was pretty short-lived), but it is still goofy.
  12. Sorry to hear that; it was very good, and hopefully won't be too long before the next installment.
  13. There's also a version of Kikuchi's "Dancing Mist" from that concert that was released separately from the Philips/Fontana LP listed above.
  14. I don't think so -- maybe it was not on the tape that was sent to Rudy? Looks like all CD issues are without it too. The Japanese pressing is really nice and quiet, and the mix feels a bit hotter than what Milestone released. Would be nice to get a definitive version with all five tracks.
  15. The Japanese LP swaps "Black Narcissus" in for "Out 'n In." So there's one more track that was recorded. In addition, the US RVG version trims a little off of each cut.
  16. Aha! Different session. Thanks.
  17. I haven't listened to Topography in a long, long time. It's incredible though. Hard to forget the first time with records like this, Machine Gun, Nipples, Karyobin...
  18. Bough and Niblock, what a pair. Bough shot a ton of photos of Robert Wilson, the theater director, and his troupe. I also know there were some activities at Niblock's loft back then, which may or may not have been photographed by Phill (they're uncredited in the archives). In retrospect I should have gone to his birthday parties; it felt weird to attend something where you don't personally know the celebrated individual, but I suppose that's how one meets other folks! At any rate, fascinating artist, and it's doubly cool to have walked the earth at the same time as someone of this stature.
  19. I've seen those corrections -- yeah, the Drake bio must be really something to read.
