  1. Forgot about that one - yeah, that was really good.
  2. Yeah, nothing wrong with having a minor title on Transition, just because...
  3. Hope it's a great one!
  4. Not the same . The only part of that Wardell twofer that has Frank Morgan is the sextet stuff with Teddy Charles , and that's from '53 . Thanks, now I remember... it's hard to keep track right now because 95% of my vinyl is inaccessible. (and I don't just mean musically...)
  5. Now: Paul Motian - Tribute - (ECM German issue) Been spinning/enjoying this one a fair bit lately.
  6. I assume that's not the same Jazz Groove (JG) that issued the Altena concerts.
  7. Well, since it's about $5, it does - if there's a way to contact the seller!
  8. My list is, indeed, slightly artsy-fartsy. Ichii the Killer Hard-boiled Rififi French Connection The Bourne trilogy Casino Royale ...surely there are more, but that's all I can remember right now.
  9. And it's a reliable measure of the insanity of constantly increasing prices!
  10. Spider John Koerner - Spider Blues - (Elektra gold label stereo) with a side of Cragganmore 12.
  11. I guess I hadn't come across a Wardell session for GNP. There's a Prestige twofer LP that contains material with a strikingly similar band; if it weren't in storage, I'd look to see if it is in fact identical.
  12. Germs - (GI) - (Slash, 2nd press)
  13. It's really, really good.
  14. Wolfgang Dauner - Output - (ECM orig)
  15. I guess they couldn't resist that white label, similar to early Riverside, some OJC have. It makes those "Sound of Sonny" looks like the real deal, especially with a blurred Ebay picture... please add the typical Ebay "more money than brain (and eyes, and knowledge)" behaviour, and you have an explanation of those 500 $. Try $599, not $500: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sound-Of-SONNY-ROLLINS...bayphotohosting I have seen this ebay listing many times...is it a sincere mistake ? or a very bad scam ? other reissues are lsited in the price range ... anyway, nobody "bought it now". Somebody bought it!
  16. I'm sure the buyer doesn't know and doesn't care.
  17. Uh, you don't commit suicide because you're in good mental health...
  18. Ah shit, I'd have to look that up. I suspect not, because he was going by the Muslim name Yusef Mumin until recently.
  19. FWIW, McWhorter is something of a neo-con, not unlike but less flamboyant than Stanley Crouch: http://www.racematters.org/mcwhorter.htm It seems like two separate articles mashed together, to me. The NYT, that is. Can't really speak about McWhorter, as I'm unfamiliar beyond what has just been posted and linked to here.
  20. ...and yet Capra Black is your avatar?!
  21. Kind of strange/interesting reference there. Haven't read Ross' book but am curious if he's included anything about Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, or (no way he knows who) Bill Dixon (is). Ellington was more than a jazz musician, Eno was more than a pop musician, etc. Obvious the Sun writer doesn't like classical or "modern" music.
  22. Now: Max & Archie Shepp - The Long March - (Hat Hut)
  23. Yeah, it is kind of a chintzy cover and the vinyl is the color of a dark salmon filet. But I'm into the music, so I can live with it. Plus, I like dealing with Emanuele and Roberto, the guys who put out Qbico records.
  24. Not very nice or not buried in a box? How does the vinyl of this one sound, Clifford? It was in the box that I brought out of random weirdness, Japanese free jazz, and a few recent acquisitions. It's a great little record and the sound/pressing are good. Think it's OOP but shouldn't be hard to locate.
  25. Yeah, that one is supposed to be good. I'm a fan of Transfiguration as well, which is on par with the Impulse side.
