Why, why, why did I read all five pages of this? Hit-or-miss like any other label, indeed. The aesthetic vis-a-vis Af-Am musicians is interesting to contemplate, chalk it up to a lack of interest in putting out much music from a blues perspective (with exceptions like AEC, Redman/Old and New Dreams, etc). European sensibilities also drove FMP, Incus & Enja (tho theirs certainly encompassed Black music - Waldron, Cecil, Dollar), and you wouldn't fault these labels for not having enough black music in their catalogues.

This is by FAR the most I've seen this Arthur Doyle record go for... Alabama Feeling And Emanuele's other auctions did pretty well, too...

Does anyone here own this? Not that I know of! Part of the session was issued on a Savoy twofer, but it's incomplete. Fuck that, I would rather have the whole thing! I used to have a cassette of it, but all my cassettes were flooded some years ago.

Though not in print on CD, Jazz Realities (Fontana) is excellent! Featuring Mantler, Carla Bley, Lacy, Kent Carter and Aldo Romano in a strong 1966 quintet formation, it's very high on my list of '60s jazz LPs. There was a Japanese CD of this session released in the late '80s/early '90s, though ironically the vinyl is probably more common.

Isn't 'Hum Dono' supposed to be reissued soon? If not, could provide a CDR if you're desperate! I had a copy of 'Le Temps Fou' when it was released but it seems to be lost I was at the recording session! Wow... and a bummer to have lost it! I have a CDR of that (and Hum Dono, thanks to sidewinder) but would love original vinyl copies. Both are excellent sessions!

My vinyl and I haven't reached that stage yet...

There was one on Clean Feed I thought decent... saw him with Dave Burrell and William Hooker a couple of years ago and was impressed.

I think some of his health problems surfaced in the late '70s/early '80s. Yeah, that Lee set is bananas...

He has had some mouth problems which do limit his playing somewhat. Still, that disc is fine and he sounds good. I recommend it highly.
