  1. Oh, I only have the LP, which lacks the McGregor material. With the original Altsax, I always feel like Hans Dulfer and Groentjie should be around to spice it up a bit!
  2. Yeah, Ubu, that's what I was thinking of. Better contact my NDR sources and see if I can come up with it!
  3. Seems about the time he passed away, I think... Could be, however. Earl's middle name was "Goggles."
  4. I suspect there was WAAY more recorded than is on the LP - it was an NDR broadcast, after all! Wasn't this an FMP CD at some point? I have an old FMP CD catalog that lists it as "forthcoming." Not a bad record, but no Berlin Djungle!
  5. I've been far more impressed by the band on Patterns than the actual music...
  6. I need to pull this one out again... long time no listen!
  7. Aside from various BYGs and an America or two, there's: Friendship Next of Kin - Facets of the Universe (Goody) Universal Jazz Symphonette - Sound Craft '75 (Anima), orchestral blowout conducted by Earl The Freestyle Band - s/t (Adeyeme) trio with Earl on electric bass and piano, Henry Warner on clarinet and alto clarinet, and Ade Yeme on congas. Weird record, but cool as hell! Noah Howard - Live at the Village Vanguard (Freedom) Noah Howard - Patterns (Altsax) I'll dig through the mental reserves and see what else is out there, too...
  8. I wish somebody would release the hordes of private tapes from the '70s he must have in his collection...
  9. Bew-uhl is how he said it to me! Cool dude, and pretty far out...
  10. I thought "Los Olivdados" was a Shepp tune, from Fire Music.
  11. Shellac - At Action Park or the Uranus EP. :tup
  12. Ummm... I think I need this, as a collector of all things Earl Freeman. By the way, ep1str0phy's review of the Isipingo at AAJ is nice!
  13. I love the cover on that one. It's usually around $30-$40, which is too much.
  14. Is it the Dawn or the Pye reissue? Great record... I thought it did have its own Akarma CD issue.
  15. I've also heard of, rather than an oven, leaving it in between the glass pieces out on the patio. How long should one leave it, and does one keep it in its paper sleeve while doing this or not?
  16. I think it was Deep. The piles of art books didn't seem to squash 'em enough. I mean, they play through, but they thunk lightly and look horrible... How much would a couple of pieces of tempered glass cost anyway? I'll test it on a factory-warped BYG.
  17. Got a couple of LPs mailed to me in the Texas summer and they're now warped pretty good. The playing surfaces are fine (not heat-chewed) so I'd like to salvage them if possible. Any ideas? People must continue record commerce in Texas during the summer, but even a PO Box hasn't helped the hot semi trailer syndrome that these two Gunter Christmann titles must've encountered...
  18. Very interesting article, for sure. Hill's music is complex in the way that it's hard to put a finger on. I keep buying his records, though I have fallen in love with only one or two.
  19. I too would like to hear this'n, though my interest in Joe has waned in recent years...
  20. I prefer Cornbread by a mile to Sidewinder, but the latter is still a very good record. Now, to hear Lee on Evolution is a different story altogether, and one I enjoy very, very much.
  21. When was the last time Globe Unity was a regular band? Probably before I came into the music...
  22. Thirds (or fourths) for Soundin' Off... Also: Ted Curson - Pop Wine - (Futura) with the Georges Arvanitas Trio Don Ellis - Essence - (Pacific Jazz) wih Bley, Peacock and Martinis Don Ellis - How Time Passes - (Candid) with Byard, Persip and Ron Carter Harry Beckett - Warm Smiles - (RCA-Victor) with John Taylor, Chris Laurence and ?John Webb
  23. Love this session! Will give it another spin later tonight...
