  1. Damn, this is not good news. Anyone have his email? Would like to send him well wishes.
  2. no, other materials for the project in which I was to be involved. Tapes are gone, IIRC.
  3. Yeah, '35 makes much more sense!
  4. Me too. With Mtume's death and some other organizational complications, it seems to have stalled. But I remain hopeful and have the raw materials at the ready.
  5. Wow, fascinating character who I never really knew much about. RIP.
  6. Michael Downs was a west coast guy and also worked with Virgil Gonsalves.
  7. Franklin wasn't credited on the original, either.
  8. ah, interesting. Also, no more Tower Records in the US -- its NoHo/East Village location was pretty fun shopping back in the day. I also had good CD luck at the Northside Chicago one.
  9. If any of our Canadian or Mexican brothers and sisters order it, let me know and I'll kick in on postage for an extra!
  10. Great album. Bought an original when those things were less expensive. I'm sure BBE did a fine job; anyone know if it's from tapes?
  11. yup. Psi, and I think he also had a hand in helping A Records and Steam get off the ground.
  12. Really, really bummed to share the news that the founder of Emanem Records, Martin Davidson, passed yesterday at age 81. He was a friend to and tireless chronicler/supporter of British creative improvised music and beyond. The Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Paul Rutherford, Derek Bailey, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Kent Carter, Bobby Bradford, John Carter, Duck Baker, Charlotte Hug, Sylvia Hallett, Fred Lonberg-Holm, John Butcher, Bernie McGann, and so many others had their music archived and released on Emanem. I suppose his passing was not totally unexpected as I know he'd been dealing with some health issues recently, but I always enjoyed communicating with him and am forever indebted to his great program of CDs and LPs. RIP and thank you Martin.
  13. Ah, that's sad news. RIP.
  14. Wish I had Galactic Ramble! So I'll probably end up buying this one...
  15. 😂 yep...
  16. Sandy Ewen has had to cancel her slot due to an unforeseen conflict. The show will go on, however, with NYC ambient synthesizer artist Rory O'Connor performing as Nitemoves. It'll be an interesting evening for sure.
  17. Too bad! RIP
  18. Hope to hear that at some point. https://digital.grinnell.edu/islandora/object/grinnell:26803
  19. yeah, it depends on the band/concept. He had very discrete approaches within his musical universe, discarding what was no longer useful. Jeff Parker seems to me to have distilled the Bauer/Tristano approach and the drone music Takayanagi was making on Action Direct into a pretty unique sound, especially as a solo player. I can't think of too many other artists who've picked up on Takayanagi's worlds so clearly and taken them into another direction. And yeah, Independence: Tread on Sure Ground is a great record. I have the 1980s Union pressing which used to be fairly cheap... not sure whether Cinedelic is legit but at least if it sounds good that's something. I know Jeff has an original 1970 pressing of that record, which is very tough to come by.
  20. Wonderful. Looking forward to reading this; I wish I'd had the chance to interview Mars, but I'm glad Howard got in there.
  21. Ah, that's too bad.
