  1. Congrats! She is beautiful! Great photos. Now for a name, not to put pressure on her to be a Jazz Organist or anything but Shirley McDuff-Patton Alfredson has a nice ring to it!
  2. Give him a go and let us know, he is one of my all time favorite artists. I mostly listen to the Bluesville sides these days but the Aladdin and Ace stuff is also great.
  3. ^ I was busy most of the day but caught the 4th quarter and the two overtimes. One of the best playoff games of all time. I am rooting for the Suns (since my team missed the cut by a game), it will be interesting if they have the mental toughness to overcome such a heartbreaking loss. They did everything right except for the last three possessions in the 4th quarter where they couldn't score, letting Duncan take the open 3 at the end of the first overtime was exactly what they wanted. Props to TiMVP for making his first 3 of the year. I think whomever comes out of this series will take the west.
  4. I couldn't make it down to Amoeba saturday for Record Store Day but my local shop was having a sale so I pick up the following vinyl. The Abercrombie and Towner is ok, the Albert King is pretty good but both the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac and the Andrew Hill are excellent. Enjoyed the heck out of both of those.
  5. Yes indeed! MG Third, that version of Cissy Strut is killer.
  6. Good review of it here: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/music/reviews...les-from-india/ "In many ways, Miles from India is a reimagining of Davis’s career, a fantasy of what his records might’ve sounded like had Indian phrasing and instrumentation in fact loomed much larger in his work than they did. And while it couldn’t hope to recreate the frazzled, interplanetary craft-ed soundworld of those years, it attempts to communicate with it in the language of a future Miles never lived to see. The end result is an ingeniously conceived and arranged, flawlessly executed, and intermittently blazing fusion appealing perhaps as much to the casual world music fan as the dedicated electric Miles obsessive."
  7. Maybe his ass swallowed it. Ha Ha... seems like the Dodgers m.o, pay someone too much after their best years are behind them, I think Kevin Brown is still on the payroll.
  8. I just hand this in my hands at the record store and put it back, looks like I will have to go back and get it. It just got the re-issue treatment.
  9. Its not the brand of ball they play its the east coast media bias on them that gets shoved down my throat. There are lots of interesting stories and players on other teams, great rivalries that don't require the director of Gigli telling me how great it is on a espn promo. Just sick of it.
  10. Wt. Sox lineup is sick. I think you have a reason to be excited this year. Anything your team can to do help make my fantasy of a Yankee-less, Red Sox-less post season I am all for.
  11. Last Train To Skaville and Keyboard King Of Studio One are both ESSENTIAL. Jackie Mittoo was the coolest.
  12. You will be very happy with that purchase. Its was also a steal at 7.99. The Charlie Rouse fan club meets on Thursday nights.
  13. ooh... nice line up with Charlie Rouse, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor. I will have to check that one out. The whole batch looks interesting.
  14. In High School in the 80's I was in a Ska type band (yes, I am old), it was fun. At the time I loved the English Beat and the Specials. Even though they weren't Ska I also loved the Clash when they brought Ska and Dub elements into their music. I couldn't stand most of the late 90's Ska revival bands at least the really popular stuff like No Doubt and Mighty Mighty Boss Tones. These days I stick to the late 60's to late 70's Jamaican stuff (I love most Ska, Roots and Dub from around that time).
  15. Thanks! wasn't expecting this to hit emusic at all. I guess I saw Bob Beldon on it and thought Blue Note for some reason. The samples sound great. Must refrain from buying booster pack.
  16. Sunday Vinyl spins:
  17. A quick public service announcement to remind everybody who has the best record in the AL: Thank you, that is all
  18. I love the Shelby Lynne quote! "You can't roll a joint on an iPod - buy vinyl!"

    Adam Rogers

I have only heard Adam Rogers on the latest Chris Potter but him and Steve Cardenas who is on the new Ben Alison are becoming my two new favorite Jazz guitar players (they appear together on Paul Motian's Garden Of Eden) because they both don't really play Jazz guitar on those records. Their approaches are so different and fresh. Not that I don't love Jazz guitar.
  20. A friend made me a compilation from the Goodbye Babylon box, expensive but amazing stuff. A great starter set would be the Yazoo comp "The Best There Ever Was" Get either on disc or through emusic: http://www.emusic.com/album/Various-Artist...d/10798671.html
  21. sigh, Mr. Injury Rich Harden is scratched for Tuesdays start against the Blue Jays. Its early but its looking like a long year with the injuries to two starters and lack of hitting. Could be worse I could be caring about the Giants..
  22. The Mingus and Stones I already have on vinyl.
  23. With the season only 3% of the way done its way too early to be too excited or upset about anything right now. Who are the sadists that came up with the A's and Red Sox opening schedules? Japan to California to Toronto? Are you kidding me. As for the A's, again too early to be upset about anything but for some reason Travis Buck is an automatic out which isn't good when he is your leadoff hitter and for the rest of the year I will refer to Jack Cusk at (K)ust. Really happy with starting pitching, maybe they will score a run for Joe Blanton this year. Poor guy in on pace to have an era under 2.50 and lose 30 games.
  24. Freddie Hubbard and Friends – Yoshi’s April 4th. First show Sadly Freddie has lost all his chops, hardly any sound came out of his Trumpet but it was still worth it because I got to see James Spaulding and George Gables for the first time who were both amazing along with the great Lenny White and Bobby Hutcherson. It was great to see some walking giants, even if Freddie can’t play anymore. There was also some nice banter between Orin Keepnews who was in attendance and Hubbard. Highlights: Arietis Sunflower Caravan And Freddie Hubbard telling the story of when Chick Corea had L.Ron Hubbard call him and Freddie hanging up on him and telling him just because your last name is Hubbard doesn’t give you the right to call me. A great venue and a packed house, good times.
  25. Man, last night Feliz came up w/ the bases loaded and swung at the first pitch and popped up. Rally over. Phils lose 1-0. Mind you this was against the same pitcher who lost the game today by throwing 4 straight balls w/ the bases loaded. Welcome to my nightmare of the past several years. Feliz is a great glove man....but he just plain doesn't know diddly squat about hitting. I feel your pain, JH. Trust me. I think in a real lineup like the Phillies have he will be fine. But I would recommend pitch hitting for him in the later innings if the game is on the line.
