  1. Probably not anybody's radar on the east coast but there is a nice little story in Oakland in Brad Ziegler. Overcoming a fractured skull off a hit ball after being demoted to low A ball, changing his delivery to sidearm/submarine style to finally getting the call and going for the all time consecutive innings pitched without giving up a run record. He already holds it for most innings pitched without giving up a run to start a career.
  2. and the Patriots take the lead in the 4th quarter over the Texans 19-16. Texans looking for a field goal to tie..
  3. If he can find a dentist in Boston to prescribe HGH for his pituitary gland that might work out for you.
  4. Break a leg, I would love to go if I could. I think SF and Yoshi's would love to have you.
  5. Jesus. What happened to the Big 3? Mulder - career over. Hudson has Tommy John and will miss 09 and most Giant fans wish Zito did have Tommy John surgery.
  6. Go Wt. Sox, Twins and Rays. Please have the two evil empires of the east stay home this fall. Please.
  7. if you don't mind the addition of Drums to the Oud, Bass and Piano format Continuo by Avishai Cohen is worth checking out.
  8. Yeah, ain't those CC cards nice? Heard they're now available at Best Buy as well. Cool, Best Buy is much closer and I got the last one at Circuit City. Eric Dolphy And Booker Little - At The Five Spot Volume 1 & 2 Pink Anderson - Carolina Blues Man Volume 1 Linval Thompson - Ride on Dreadlocks_ 1975-1977
  9. That happens in the NL too? I thought it was just an Oakland A's specialty over the last month.
  10. great album as well
  11. La Leyenda del Cañaveral - David Sanchez - Cultural Survival Excellent new release. Will be on my short list for best of 2008. Close Up The Honky Tonks - Dwight Yoakam - Dwight Sings Buck One of the all time great covers. One of the few times I can recall playing a song back to back five times in a row. Dwight's next record could be Dwight Sings Phone Book and I will buy it because I love his voice that much.
  12. If it was in my area I would buy tickets to some of the events, I do respect those that put in the sacrifice to have their moment every four years.
  13. oh the poor suffering Red Sox fans and those evil Rays with their history of huge payrolls and domination. that giant sucking sound your hear coming from north of the border is Houston Street's career. Maybe the nicest guy in MLB but.. maybe that is his problem you need to be tough as nails and a bit nuts to be a closer. Zeigler or somebody else better have the job next year. Congrats to Mike Hampton winning his first game since Aug 05 last night.
  14. The worst was the wrestling gold medal event in 2000. Since NBC knew the outcome they played the syrupy stuff to their advantage. Anyway a kid from Iowa beat the last two time Gold Medal winner from Russia. The pre match hype was out of control. They would show the eventual winner from Iowa walking the fields with his dog and kissing babies while he talked over motivational music. For the Russian athlete NBC manipulated his voice to talk slower and deeper to make him sound more evil and all the footage was in black and white with menacing music. Short of doing a reenactment of the Russian athlete drowning puppies it couldn't have been more over the top.
  15. I did some work for the NBC Olympic Web Site during the 2000 games and it was really fun being in a room with 20 monitors keeping track of all the events as they happened and doing updates in real time. But on my day off when trying to follow at home it was torture with the commercials, the bs movies about the athletes with the cheesy music and how they manipulate everything up for emotional effect to the lowest common detonator of viewers. It was more about reality TV instead of sport. I haven't watched a single event since. Its also total bs that we are sending pro basketball players over there. It would be a million times more exciting to root for some college kids who would be having the time of their lives and actually honoring their country instead of their shoe contract.
  16. Happy B-Day Jerry! NP: 1973-07-27 - Grand Prix Racecourse - Watkins Glen, NY The sound check form the day before Watkins Glen Show was scheduled which turned into a full show. ahh. 73 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Jam_at_Watkins_Glen
  17. Jeff Kent and Manny.. that will be fun. Considering how the bad the NL West its not a bad trade for the Dodgers. There was talk of the A's trading for LaRoche, like they need another 203 hitter in the infield.
  18. Happy B-day to Mr. Spaulding. I saw him recently at the Freddy Hubbard B-day bash at Yoshi's and Spaulding sounded better then everyone else that night. Keep it going.
  19. seems like Texeria is more trouble then he is worth. They were going to run away with the division regardless. However its a good trade since the Angels time is now. It seems that in the playoffs you need two long ball clutch hitters, two elite starters and a great bullpen. Depth in starting rotation, speed (of course being able to create runs certainly helps since your facing elite pitching), defense less so like the regular season. Angels seem to be the favorites right now for a WS title.
  20. The magnetic pull of the Death Star.. er Amoeba finally pulled me in yesterday. Sound of Love - Paul Motian (w/ Frisell & Lovano) Her First Dance - Misha Alperin The Complete Aladdin Recordings - Lightnin' Hopkins Belonging - Keith Jarrett Fillmore East: April 1971 - Grateful Dead
  21. Glad to hear everybody is ok, as funky as SFGH looks as well as some of the people who hang there it is one of the best trauma units in the country .
  22. Easy Living by Enrico Rava from 2004 w/ Stefano Bollani is a must own. The Words and the Days is also very good.
  23. The biggest Mac virus so far seems to be the MicroSoft Office Suite 2008. It defaults saved files with a .docx instead of .doc so that it can only be opened with users who have Office 08 and when you run the updates it says in order to install these Microsoft Office Updates you need to quit the Microsoft Office Updater. wtf? Don't get me started on what a piece of junk Vista is. Running XP on a Intel Mac is pretty ok though.
  24. From a user on Emusic: "If you are interested in hearing the concert in chronological order--or at least in the sequence as recorded by Prestige--here is the set list (according to Vladimir Simosko and Barry Tepperman's discography): 1) Status Seeking, 2) God Bless the Child (solo!), 3) Aggression, 4) Like Someone in Love, 5) Fire Waltz, 6) Bee Vamp, 7) The Prophet, 8) Number Eight (Potsa Lotsa), 9) Booker's Waltz, 10) Bee Vamp (alternate take). "
  25. Paps, Don't get too excited about the Rays pitching shutting down the A's offense. They can't hit out of a paper bag right now, they are young team that got younger the last two weeks and the players are bummed that their GM doesn't think they have shot this year. I don't blame the players they have to think they can win to get on the field but realistically the first half was a nice surprise but this year was always about building for the next. Big Al should be happy as the Rangers move into 2nd place. Since my team is done GO RAYS!!
