  1. Thanks all ! The Scotch is flowing freely tonight
  2. $150 for this is a reasonable price (I'm assuming it's the 4 CD version). I have the LP set and like it but to be honest I don't play it anywhere near enough. What I do recall is that the booklet has an excellent overview of Chaloff's career from the early days in Boston onwards. This is a good reminder for me to give this set a fresh spin.
  3. Hey, good idea ! After a couple of Macallans I think its time to put on 'Manfred Mann Chapter III' and stare at the decal as it goes round...
  4. Sure is ! I'll try to squeeze in a bit of JJ Johnson LP if I get time.
  5. Unbelievable ! Have they added something to the water over there in Germany recently? There was a time (and I'm thinking back to Beckenbauer, Muller & co.) when the German national team was all but invincible. Getting goals against them was like getting blood out of a stone. Having said that, I bet they're still better than the bunch of overpaid posers that Sven-boy is running over here.. Back to the Mosaics..
  6. Incredibly, the two Davis/Evans sets that completed on ebay last night went for $610 and $396.
  7. John Surman 'Tales of the Algonquin' (Deram) Sam Rivers 'Contours' (BN NY USA mono, signed on the back by Sam )
  8. Up on deck for the day's listening pleasures: Maynard Ferguson LP set Bill Evans Vanguard LP set Kenton Holman/Russo LP set Lee Morgan/Wayne Shorter VeeJay CD set That should keep me going for a while..
  9. Great news ! The banana boat comes through..
  10. It's headed towards £1 a litre here, which makes it over £4 a gallon..
  11. Hey, at least he can learn how to swing now..
  12. Hey, thanks guys, that was a nice suprise to get, logging on for the morning 'shift' at Organissimo ! I have the day off of work so the vinyl is spinning big time, starting with Grachan Moncur III's 'Evolution'. I'll progress to the Mosaics and single malts as the day rolls along...
  13. Good choice, I'll dig out the vinyl. Beautifully recorded by ECM and probably my favourite Abercrombie album (at least of those I've heard). Isn't one of the compositions also on the Elvin Jones 'At This Point In Time' session? (Hammer was on both sessions).
  14. Thanks ! Worked out at about £50, including shipping from the US. A pretty good deal, call it a bonus birthday present.
  15. Happy birthday !
  16. A check of popsike shows a median price of about $275 to $300 for near-mint sets. $560 (and up) is still ridiculous ! What is even odder is that the same high bidder is going for a set at $260 which is immediately before this one..
  17. Same here !
  18. Here's another one going ballistic.. Miles & Gil LP set
  19. How about 'strippers & Mosaics'
  20. A couple of very cool Euro Blue Note compilations: 'Scotch & Sofa' (Blue Note France 2LP compilation by DJ 'Booster'. Poppa Lou's 'One Cylinder' just spinning ( ). This one sounds way better than the CD version) 'Heroes of the Hammond Vol 2' (Blue Note UK 2LP compilation. Some great stuff on this - George Braith, Larry Young, Lonnie Smith for starters).
  21. That's great news - I hope your plans work out on this one and I hope James Spaulding and Pete Sims are in the lineup. Count me in when you hit the UK and hope the arm gets better quick..
  22. Trunk Records presents 'The Super Sounds of Bosworth' (60s/70s TV/film archive rarities).
  23. "Valid only in U.S. stores now through 9/05/05." Grrr...
  24. Terry Smith 'Fall Out' (Philips) Mosaic Basie 'Complete Roulette Live' LP set

    Verve LPRs

I find that. like Mosaics, they are a very effective 'enabler' into artists and styles that I haven't yet got into. Good examples on that Verve Elite series were the Schifrin, Herb Ellis, Paul Quinichette and Roy Eldridge.
