  1. I'm gonna hold out for a vinyl 45 sessions Mosaic..
  2. Various - 'Jazz at the Fabulous Flamingo - 10th Anniversary' (Ember) Don Rendell/Ian Carr 'Live' (UK Columbia Lansdowne) 'The Tony Kinsey Quintet' (with Joe Harriott, Decca 45rpm)
  3. Tommy Flanagan 'The Cats' (New Jazz)
  4. In a fit of madness I sold my vinyl of that one !
  5. Useful link
  6. The chick looks quite cute tho..
  7. How about something like a Rega Planar 3? $300 might just get a good second-hand model, perhaps. By the way, you won't regret splashing out for the turntable. The only downside is the resulting outlay on vinyl..
  8. Splendid ! This little series and its fine archive is turning into a University of Jazz.
  9. A very happy birthday to Mr Marion Brown. 'Three For Shepp' going on a bit later in recognition. I'll second the comment about the great warmth in his playing. Way to go !
  10. I have to admit I'm on the fence over this myself. It's a big splash, I'd enjoy it, but would I enjoy all of it... ← That just about sums up my dilema too !
  11. It's still very much Fathead but in a harder vein than usual. The work here is somewhat analogous to more adventurous tracks like 'The Clincher' on his Atlantic dates of this period.
  12. Thinking about it, maybe they should change their name from 'Harkitt' to 'Yankitt'
  13. An understatement. They were a national disgrace !
  14. Took me years to work out what that was..
  15. The Rendell/Carr for sure (not sure if it's still readily available though), recorded mainly in Camberley. Not heard any of the others yet, although Tubby Hayes Live Vol 2 is getting good reviews. Would like also to check out the Yusef Lateef. I was able to pick up a vinyl of their Spanish BBC transcriptions by Tubby Hayes quartet (released on CD on 'Commonwealth Blues' by another label) but they have pulled this one from the market.
  16. Love it ! I think the team of Morgan and David Newman is a very compatible one. Fathead plays with a harder edge than usual on this session - a typical BN late 60s hard bop gem. Cedar Walton in particular is also on good form too (but there again, isn't he always?) Just popped my King vinyl of this on the platter. Side 1 smokes - 'Sneaky Pete', 'The Mercenary' and the title track. Fathead on particularly good form on these. A great ballad on side 2 'I'll Never Be The Same' featuring fine trumpet work to round it all off in the fashion of Morgan's better Blue Notes.
  17. Amazing, Wolff - I never see these $90 - $100 sets ! They must be filtered out by ebay for non-US viewers
  18. My boss at work (who drives a flash Audi TT coupe) has recently bought a pushbike. That is a sign of the times ! Wish too I could use my bike but with 25 miles each way and no good rail/bus service I'm stymied.
  19. I think he is in recovery mode after a double-hernia operation earlier this year. I can understand why he stepped down !
  20. Recorded by Les Tompkins at Ronnie Scotts from his own personal collection of recordings. This '65 tour was a legendary one for Rollins.
  21. Great news ! Here's wishing Mr Griffin good luck for a speedy recovery.
  22. Looks good. I might just be tempted..
