  1. The House of David Baseball Team, for you "Buddy Rich tapes" fans. ←
  2. Milt Jackson 'Second Nature - The Savoy Sessions'. Released in 1976 by Arista. Wonderful set. Wade Legge replaces Hank Jones on 'Come Rain or Come Shine', ' Fred's Mood', 'Wild Man', 'Soulful', 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' and (a superlative version of) 'Flamingo'. Recorded Jan 5th 1956.
  3. After listening to the 2LP UK Verve set 'Strike It Rich' my appetite for this Mosaic has definitely been whetted. There's some blistering early work by Sonny Criss on these tracks, recorded by Rich in LA. Very fine mainstream jazz and very well recorded !
  4. Set with a 'buy it now' for $98. Looks like a good deal. I'm not sure but it looks as if it's on offer to buyers within Germany only. May be of interest to one of the German board members, perhaps.. Phil Woods Mosaic
  5. Disk 6 now ! I'll haul the old avatar back out for Xmas..
  6. Hank Mobley CD No. 4, after CD No. 2. What a set !
  7. Yes, I remember seeing them live circa 1986 as a quartet with Paul Dunmall heavily featured on tenor. Very much a vehicle for pianist and leader Tim Richards, in a Coltranish post-bop vein. Here's a cover of a 1982 Spotlite LP:
  8. Happy Birthday Edward !
  9. Yes, have a very happy birthday !
  10. 'Sittin' In' - Sonny Stitt/Oscar Peterson (UK Verve 2LP) Miles Davis & Sonny Stitt 'Live In Stockholm 1960' (Dragon 2LP)
  11. 'The Duke Plays Ellington' (UK Capitol 10" LP) Booker Ervin 'The Trance' (Prestige)
  12. RIP, sorry to hear this. Saw him on tour a couple of times with Rich's band. Heck, I always thought of Steve Marcus as a relative youngster..
  13. Pee Wee Russell 'Swingin' With Pee Wee' (UK Prestige Swingville original). With Buck Clayton and Tommy Flanagan's trio
  14. Just heard from Mosaic that as of today there are about 38 Kid Ory sets left.
  15. Ah crap. Apparently this is quite a problem, not isolated to a few cases. Looks like I'll be waiting. ← Yes, there has also been quite a bit of fuss in the UK over this in the last few days. According to the newspapers, quite a lot of returns. Also displays seizing up for no reason. I'll be hanging fire too until this is sorted out.
  16. After much procrastination just pulled the trigger on the Kid Ory set, as well as the new Tolliver Select. Can't be long before the Ory goes now, I guess.
  17. Some pretty hefty prices fetched on those sets. Horace Parlan - $370 Miles/Gil - $463 Miles Plugged Nickel - $307 Capitol Jazz - $687 Charles Brown - $338 Basie Studio Roulette - $670 Blakey - $362 Basie Live Roulette - $380 Benedetti Parker - $306 Port of Harlem 1LP - $88 ( ) On the other hand, the purchaser of the Kenton at $76 got a pretty good deal !
  18. That's very sad to hear. I like the album he made with Dexter Gordon and Sonny Grey (issued on Spotlite, I think) back in the 1970s. I've a French double LP of standards material which I'll give a spin later today. RIP.
  19. Both of those are good ones. Particularly the Thad Jones on vinyl . I have the Chico on CD, which is more than good enough but I'll bet it sounds phenomenal on the vinyl. Congrats ! Better get the TT serviceable quick
  20. ...and the winner is: $127.50! Ouch! ← Is that the original? (one would - at the very least - hope so ) Just spotted the Rare Groove for £5 but I was put off by some of the track titles (a tad 'commercial')
  21. George Lewis Blue Note CD1. Dark black smoke coming out of the CD player.
  22. Thanks Steph ! I figured it was around a thousand or so of these albums. If only I had a time machine to go back to 1968/69 and buy them all for 35s 6p each in A1 nick ! Look forward to checking out your band at some time, good luck. PS - I caught your gig at the 'Jazz Britannia'. That version of 'Jaipur' was truly excellent.
  23. Duke Ellington 'The Age of Ellington'. (UK RCA Victor). Very interesting 3LP overview set.
