  1. Excellent track and album !
  2. James Moody ‘At the Jazz Workshop’ (Argo). The track is called ‘Home Fries’ I think. Dave Burns on trumpet, Moody on alto.
  3. That is true - even RTI have been churning out sub-standard vinyl this year. Just hope that my Sonny Rollins (in the mail) isn’t one of them !
  4. Wasn’t it burning his scalp after falling and being exposed to a hot radiator, or something similar?
  5. I prefer the ‘old’ Rajah cover design - not that it was great. Lots of gnashing of teeth on the Hoffman Forums about the price of Tone Poets In Europe and the bargain deals in the US from Target. The norm here seems to be around £32 and I have to say, those I have bought are worth it. I subscribed to the old MM 45rpm series and I don’t think I paid any more than that including shipping. Those were the days..
  6. It had a visible mark - which doesn’t sound, thankfully. On the plus side, I now have a ‘reserve copy’.
  7. Check out the ‘Cherry Jam’ on Gearbox !
  8. This is sad news. I had some good evenings in there. Immediately coming to mind are Teddy Edwards with John Hicks Trio and Ahmad Jamal’s trio (fantastic shows).
  9. Did anyone get a 100% ‘good’ copy?
  10. Just given the LP a spin and I like it. Nothing too profound, pretty much a blowing session but a good one and in good, clear sound. Fine version of ‘Body and Soul’ by George on side 2, a feature for his circular breathing technique. Echo the comments above about the nice LP production and booklet. Very glad to have it !
  11. 2 day delivery from Barcelona ! The one time I saw Danny Moore was in George’s Octet, around a decade later.
  12. To both of those
  13. UK HMV green label, factory sample. Brit band including Tubby Hayes, side 1. US lineup with Shorty Rogers side 2. Stereo version. Looking at the grey skies and the rain on the tarmac, I would hazard a guess that that shot was taken at the Heathrow end.
  14. Saw this group (with Turre added) within days of this performance. Some of the tunes played here such as ‘Eastern Joy Dance’ were at my gig too.
  15. The RSD vinyl still seems to be up for sale at Jazz Messengers. Just ordered a copy !
  16. Can’t go wrong with Tetley’s. Usually my preference at the supermarket and I go through lots of it !
  17. MPS 5CD set. Very interesting ! The ‘Little Suite’ with Jimmy Woode and Albert Heath from 1965, released on Preiser, is stunning.
  18. Resteamed CD. Recorded in Abbey Road with photographers and film crews present, no pressure on Stan and the band then.
  19. Pulling out the vinyl of this one, after the 1968 Resonance LP spin. These are significant releases !
  20. Picked up my LP copy of the Maupin at the old ‘VinylWest’ store in Stuttgart. The owner told me at the time that he had recently bought cover designer Barbara Wojirsch’s collection of ECMs from her. So my copy is quite possibly one of those. Sad that she got rid of her personal set of these wonderful designs but at least one of them got an appreciative home.
  21. First spin of the new Resonance, copy #795. Considering the sound source, quite acceptable sonics, better than expected in fact and what seems to be an excellent pressing. Great music by this trio and the live atmosphere at Scott’s is well captured (). Recommended ! The trio were at Scott’s for a month during that stint and the cohesion and ease with the venue shows in the performance.
  22. I would hazard to guess that the sound on this one is better than on the original ! Agree with your comment on the packaging - they could have used a sturdier cardboard, I guess this was an ‘eco’ job. On the whole, happy with it though.
