  1. Vancouver always was the scam capital of Canada.
  2. Artist Share Really regretting missing out on the original option with the book. This one is superb !
  3. Is that 1970 issue the blue/black label one ?
  4. Yes, they are definitely both disk 1s on replay. Just heard from Scott - replacement being sorted, excellent service.
  5. Must be a British thing - the same thing has just happened to me.
  6. Set No. 38 has just arrived from JazzMessengers. Superbly well packed - like Mosaic used to do before they contracted it out. Does that give me the lowest number set? (other than Ted O’R.) The music and playing is superb. Very impressed with Don Thompson’s recording too.
  7. I remember those - just the booths, you had to get them to load the vinyl on the deck at the sales desk. Remember doing that with Average White Band ‘Pick Up The Pieces’. Tony Williams and Grachan Moncur III obviously not playing off the correct hymn sheet (to their credit).
  8. Looks like my sets are already on their way with the courier and due to arrive tomorrow. Can’t argue with that !
  9. Totally different by the sound of it - I don’t recall even the likes of Bay and Bloor being that packed, even during busy times. The 80s/early 90s were probably a golden period, in retrospect. Always a damned expensive place to live though ! The ‘Urban Toronto’ Forum has some very interesting photographs taken of sites back then and what they are now. Quite an eye-opener. Back in the 1990s the old Victorian era downtown landmarks were somehow hanging on, although rapid growth was already evident. Skydome was the latest and greatest new thing (and I even saw a cricket Test Match Friendly there with the legendary West Indies Team v Rest of the World ).
  10. Don’t recall the TTC being over-full much back in the day but I guess Toronto is a busier and much more crowded place these days. Population at several million was hardly sparse even then though.
  11. I’d forgotten about that. Added bonus ! Maybe I should quarantine mine until then.
  12. I guess it’s a personal decision. Personally I really like both A&M Horizon LP releases, the Desmond and the Hall, so a bit of a no-brainer. I had the pleasure of seeing Ed Bickert live back in the day - plus Don Thompson and Jerry Fuller - so this will be a nice reminder.
  13. Yes - too much hassle. In the past I’ve also had to make quite a lengthy drive to the area Royal Mail depot just for the privilege of picking it up and paying the not inconsiderable import tax. Sucks big time all round.
  14. Yes - no bargain. However, I’ve opted for peace of mind based on the tales of grief from our various North American board members. Plus - I want it this week and needed an excuse to get that elusive Jim Hall.
  15. snippet of this one on the ‘Debut Story’ box. Wish someone would put the whole thing out on CD !
  16. Thanks for confirming that - just checked and the set is already in at JM and on site at Euro 159 and a bit. Doing the sums the difference is marginal compared to ordering from Mosaic direct with shipping and import tax and at least with JM you get 2-4 days courier delivery with no hassle from the packaging department and shipping issues. I noticed also that they also still had the ‘Jim Hall Live Vols 2-4’ in stock, also recorded by Don Thompson, so for me it will be a ‘1970s Bourbon St, Toronto Fest’ week. Plus - they offer a free tote bag !
  17. Great music - dreadful recording.
  18. Probably safer to order from Mosaic direct for this one.
  19. I keep checking on there and haven’t seen any sight of it yet.
  20. Yes, the Lonnie Smith sounds really nice. It doesn’t have the vocals but that’s probably good as it helps the ‘flow’. I will take your advice about ‘Cornbread’. I have that one in NY mono pressing (Liberty era). The only issue with that one, at least on my copy, is the lop-sided guillotine cut used on the cover . The ‘Black Fire’ I have in NY USA mono and stereo issues so well covered on that one - both sound lovely. ’Mr Shing-a-Ling’ beckons.. Just too bad that the BN shop doesn’t have it. Also hoping that Joe Harley brings out a 3 LP Lee Morgan ‘Live at the Lighthouse’ per the Hoffman board report/rumour. Or maybe that is wishful thinking ?
  21. Massey Hall undubbed and dubbed complete recordings. Very good sound on this set. Spectacular music of course.
