  3. I bought it at the time together with others riding high on the Rogers boom - also saw Shorty with NYJO. More the 80s tho' IIRC. Yes, I remember that UK tour he did with them and various features in Jazz Journal (seem to remember that Steve Voce was a friend of his). Only sorry that I never got to see him play.

  5. Yes, very annoying that is. Have obliterated more than my share due to this.
  6. One of the first West Coast albums I heard was Shorty Rogers 'Clicking With Clax'. Released over here (first time I think) on Atlantic in the mid-70s and a suprising hit in terms of sales.
  7. Having got the Mosaic Shorter Vee-Jay set and all of the Blue Notes I (thankfully) have no use for this set.

  9. I stick them on the inside of the plastic case. OBI fetishism rules.. Maybe inspired by this?..
  10. Picked up several of those in the early years - the Mingus and RR Kirk, as well as the Coltrane. A tremendous education (the Mingus in particular). More recently, I've got hold of the Freddie Hubbard and MJQ sets. Importatntly, they were readily available here in Europe (German pressings) so not reliant on US imports.

  13. Looks like the Trio tracks are taken from the German Vogue 2LP 'Jazz Joint Vol 1 - Going Classic'. I have a copy of that one - recommended.
  14. Doesn't look like it.
  15. That was certainly one of the first jazz LPs (or 2LPs) I ever heard - a relative had a copy. First LP I bought I think was 'Gerry Mulligan Meets The Sax Giants Vol 2' on Verve and the CBBB 'More Smiles', bought the same day.
  16. Big fan of his work with Braith and Smith. Sorry to hear this - RIP.
  17. Assuming it's the whole shebang of the two older Impulse boxes (one of which became very elusive super-fast), then I'm going to be tempted at 30 euros..

  19. Well done ! We look forward to your thoughts/opinions on this tome with interest.

  21. Roger - I've had a listen to the YouTube previews and those tracks sound like they are by the Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Quintet to me. Specifically, the Warwick LP 'Out Of This World', recorded in March 1961. The track labelled 'Rack Your Soul' is actually Mancini's 'Mr Lucky' and 'Jammin With Herbie' is Donald Byrd's composition 'Curros' Buyer beware ! - I agree though, very nice music. No - I am sure there will be millions of copies of this prominent in the racks of Fopp, assuming it is part of that recent £5 'Japanese OBI' release haul..

  24. I hope they will be doing a 'Royal Mail' and low-balling it..
